I may be wrong. Jimbo might just haul in such an amazing class, and the thought of playing for a coach who won a national championship a few years ago might be such a HUGE national draw, that Fisher completely changes the dynamics of college football recruiting such that recruiting season is essentially over before the prospects finish their junior year of high school.

My guess is that the **** recruits will be taking visits to other schools and that he will either have to enforce his "no visits" policy or give it up. And if he gives it up, other coaches will use that against him during recruiting, claiming Jimbo is so worried about his being able to live up to the contract he signed that he will put the interests of the athlete secondary to his own best interests.

Herman and Fisher are going after some of the same recruits with two very different recruiting philosophies. They can't both be right. My gut tells me pressuring an 18-year old kid to make an emotional spur-of-the-moment decision and then to honor it while their other friends are living it up, because "recruiting is like marriage" is a losing strategy. But we are about to see. It should be fascinating to watch this all play out.

This would be great news if stars mattered and if the recruiting gurus knew what they were talking about.

I've been repeatedly assured by Texags cumulative brain trust that neither of these are the case.

As long as they are measuring subjectively, then they have a huge margin of error built in to all of their evaluations.


Until someone comes up with the football version of Moneyball of course.

ESPN has never been biased against us. They're biased toward a good story that will increase their viewership. When we had JFF they loved us (for good reason), and I think with Jimbo in charge we will see our share of positive stories.

Haha I hope so, but in order to be #1 or #2, we'll have to land a minimum of 2 out of state 5 stars that we currently don't expect to right now. Maybe even 3.

I still will stick with the guess I've had for the last 2 months which is the 4-8 range. No matter how often I've plugged guys into the class calculator, it always seems to fall in that range based on the guys we expect to land. Again, though, if you start landing some out of state studs that could change things. We could end up better than expected. Kenyon Jackson was good, but I'm talking high 4 star or even 5 star talent. Not just low 4 stars. To be #1 or #2, we need a lot more high 4 stars and 5 star talent.
