I am not an MD, but common sense will tell you (if you pay attention or know someone close in the medical field) that surgery is almost always a final option. I would hope that Reggie went through some rehab, strenghting and PT in hopes it would heal - when it didn't, then surgery became necessary. No Dr. is going to perform surgery as a first option, unless it is the only one...correct me if I am wrong MDs.

Everyone relax - the conspiracy theories about DL and Reggie's shoulder rank up there with the best of them.

"Set it straight, Buster. I'm not here to say "please." I'm here to tell you what to do. And if self-preservation is an instinct you possess, you better do it and do it quick. I'm here to help. If my help's not appreciated, lotsa luck gentlemen."

eh, 'noodle' was a fairly decent QB, but reggie has all the upside.

in my opinion, DL is right where his talent commands playing time.

I am in agreement with 12th. DL was a better qb in my opinion and got screwed. What did he do to deserve to lose the starting job. I remember Fran saying "they are co-starters," and Long getting all of a quarter and a half as a co-starter. Dang right I would have left if I were him. Regardless if he knew Reggies position on surgery or not.

Orion- sorry took me so long to answer you I had a hiatus from texags for a day. Branyon took a few snaps at the baylor game if I recall correctly, threw a td to schroeder in the 4th.

For all the people who think that Dustin got screwed:

He had the same chances to win the starting job as Reggie did. Unfortunately for him, he did not show our coaching staff that he was a better QB than Reggie. Fortunately for us, we have to years left with an incredible talent at QB. Dustin is a fine QB, and will be a great player at Sam, he simply was not good enough to beat out Reggie. Even when Reggie played poorly, he still played better than Dustin. So please stop whinning about Dustin. He chose to transfer because he knew he could not beat out Reggie for playing time.

AggieRev -

I was hoping someone would argue that.

In 2002 Dustin threw for 2500 yds. He had 19 tds and 16 int
(I will include that so no one comes back and says I am biased).

In 2003 Reggie thru for 1780 yds. He had 8 tds and 7 ints.

We had to throw more in 2002 b/c we had no running game what so ever. Now I have a hard time believing that DL just all of a sudden sucked. Do you think it had any thing to do with trying to build a program and Dustin wasnt the young kid Fran wanted? Well of course. I wont argue against that. But I will argue against anyone who says reggie is better QB. Dustin got screwed b/c Fran is trying to build. Dustin is a D I qb and can play for a DI school.

Whoop!

All I have to say to your response is if Dustin is so much better than Reggie (which he is not by any means)why did Fran choose to go with Reggie?

I can tell you. Fran realizes that Reggie has so much more potential than Dustin. Dustin simply lost games for us. (ie Nebraska, Oklahoma State). Needless to say that Dustin had a much better supporting staff the year that he started.

Finally, Did it ever occur to you that this year was a learning year? Reggie is in the process of learning his third system in one year. It was obvious that he was told not to rely on his legs, but learn to be a pocket QB. That was probably a hard transition for him. But next year he will be confident, and will have an awesome year.

To recap:

Dustin in no way got screwed. He had just as much a chance to be the starter as Reggie did. He simply was not as talented. Fran and Company knew that Reggie gives them a much better chance of being a great team in the long run.

Dustin is playing at the level now where he can achieve and reach his potential as a QB. I hope he succeds, but I am glad that Reggie is our starting QB for the next two years.

Branyon took snaps during that renowned baylor game. He was 1-2 passing with no td's.

Would we have been close to Neb without Dustin? There were more plays and calls in that game than the INT at the end you know.

At OSU, he had an amazingly accurate pass dropped that would have put us in a position to win that game. No one blames the WR for "losing that game."

I like Reggie, but there were times, and reasons when Dustin probably should have played. He didn't get the opportunity. Maybe it is hindsight, but if you are Dustin, it doesn't appear that you have much of a chance.

In my opinion, reggie has only played up to his 'hype' in two games. OU 2002, and VaTech this past season.

For the record, Bucky was hurt in Austin in 1988, his sophomore year, and was redshirted the next year.

WTF?????? Reggie did not have major reconstructive surgery. My understanding was that it was essentally a "scoping" type operation. He'll be just fine.

It was a significant surgery.
