Another TE/special teams coaching hire announced this morning. Are we hiring several control specialist positions a la Saban? Or are we still not at our 10 assistants?

Yep. I figured this was a matter of time after the group of folks paid a lot of coin for the suites with the 10 year commitment. Only to see absolutely no progress with Sumlin. Those suites are useless for some if they can't entertain in them. They needed to turn this thing around quickly to see something worth while during their 10 year commitment. And that is what they did and still doing. I think those are the folks we can thank. What's another (what amounts to) few extra million a year for them to ensure they will be happy with their original 1 mil per year investment?

we had money before as well.

Either the check signers said no to Sumlin or Sumlin didn't want\ask for them.

Just wondering why we didn't do this before...

The guys at Sirius said we have now joined Bama and Clemson in spending at an elite level. For whatever reason we weren't doing it before.

In Sumlin's first couple of years, I could see the BMAs signing off on a large support staff. But after the last couple of years, they were probably just holding their money to buy him out.

Interesting that Russell has longtime ties to Dickey, and Watson to Elko. In any event it looks like A&M is giving Jimbo everything he needs to get it done.

IMO this is a big reason why Jimbo chose A&M. Commitment from the AD to get him what he wants/needs to get the job done.

Well, that's like, not even your own opinion man. Jimbo said those very words himself

Not sure if this is right:

OC/QB: Darrell Dickey
DC/S: Mike Elko
RB: Jay Graham
WR: Dameyeune Craig
TE: Tim Brewster
OL: Jim Turner
DE: Terry Price
DT: Elijah Robinson
LB: Bradley Dale Peveto
DB: Maurice Linguist
ST: Graham (or Craig or Brewster)

Plus:
S&C: Jerry Schmidt
Operations: Mark Robinson
Analyst: Christian Parker
Analyst: Tyler Santucci
Analyst: Eric Russell
Analyst: Stan Watson

Edit: They may have also retained Tyrone Nix as an analyst. Kevin Patullo just took a job as WR coach for the Indianapolis Colts.

Young, Woodward, and Jimbo.

Woodward - "You're going to find out your biggest problem isn't bringing in the STAFF, it's what to do with all the funking cash!"

Jimbo - "I hope I have that problem some time."

Woodward - "you're going to have that problem don't worry."

That money paid for a tractor trailer loaded with speakers and DJ equipment.

Excellent question. Until this year with Jimbo, we have averaged 4th in football spending in the SEC West even with Sumlin's contract, and our final conference ranking has averaged 4th in the SEC West. The 3 SEC west schools that spend more than us have usually finished above us in the final rankings. We bring in a lot more than other schools, but we save it or spend it on other sports. Even outside the SEC, football spending almost always predicts the final conference standings. (interestingly, t.u. is the biggest exception to this rule. They spend Bama money and get tech results)

Our ADs have been VERY fiscally conservative ever since Byrne had to borrow money from Gates to pay for bad contracts and stadium upgrades. For new Kyle, they tried seeing if facilities, by themselves, can generate results. Since that hasn't really work, AD is now succumbing to the fact that you have to spend major dollars EVERY YEAR on coaching staffs to compete at the highest level. I'm predicting that our elite level spending will put us into the 1 or 2 spot in the SEC West most years after a year or two of growing pains. I'm just hoping that we don't end up like t.u. spending big bucks and getting terrible results.
