This. Neither Texas nor A&M use PUF funds for athletics. Both schools have tons of oil money via donors. TCU has quite a bit of big oil donors as well.hennyj15 said:
And we don't use any of the PUF funds for athletics. Jimbo's money all comes from BMAs and $24 chicken wraps.

I can't believe it took page 2 for someone to correctly state that PUF doesn't go to athletics. The level of ignorance in this thread is a little embarrassing.

While the Permanent University Fund (PUF) does not directly fund athletics--as Squadron 7 noted above--it does indirectly support college athletics by paying for infrastructure for Texas A&M University System and University of Texas System campuses. That physical infrastructure supports athletic programs by providing excellent academic facilities that help attract quality scholar athletes.Showstopper said:

And in the days of athletic dorms, they had the luxury wing of Jester while we built Cain (a slight upgrade from Hart).Quote:
One example of where the PUF did help fund college athletics was in 1972 when the teassips used PUF money to construct the base of the Texas Memorial Stadium west side expansion as Bellmont Hall. As noted on the Bellmont Hall History page, the Hall is "an 11-level, 500-foot tall building which was added within the support structure of Memorial Stadium's west side upper deck to house the offices of Intercollegiate Athletics, physical education facilities and lecture halls." Paying for the base structure of the football stadium west side expansion and the athletic department offices with PUF funds decreased the total cost of the project that had to be funded by sip donors.
This massive enrollment at Texas A&M is what John Sharp envisioned and wanted all along when he became Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System. He constructed Kyle Field to seat 102,733 so it is bigger than Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and any other stadium in Texas and then opened up enrollment to fill the stadium with both students and alums.C2 Ag 93 said:
With 66K enrollment now and hopefully the same love, I only shudder to think what our endowment will be in 20 years.
