PN-G beat Crosby 72-69

tu QB commit Roschon Johnson had almost 600 yards of total offense and 10 TD's

Baylor RB commit Craig Williams ran for 344 and 4 TD's in the loss.

PNG probably had years without allowing 72 points the whole season!

I can think of a notable non-big 12 school that relies on those same Texas defensive recruits.

I watched Longview play Beaumont Westbrook (insert FAST AND HARD AND THROUGH MANY HOLES reference here for Westbrook) tonight. For all intents and purposes, the final score was 42-14 (I think Westbrook might've scored in the last minute on Longview's backups).

The Longview defense is mighty impressive. They're all extremely athletic, they fly to the football, and they don't miss tackles. The Westbrook QB is very good, but they were all over him all night. That said, Jesuit has scored a lot of points this season, even on teams like DeSoto, Lake Travis, and Coppell. Should be an interesting game. I highly doubt Jesuit scores another 70.

Not on the caliber of teams y'all went to see, but I went to the Victoria West HS vs San Antonio Memorial playoff game tonight in Victoria.

It is not that the defenses were in a bad position to make a play, on both sides, but that NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO TACKLE. I mean there were a few good hits, but time after time after time there were opportunities to put a headgear on someone with extreme prejudice and most every time it was a failed arm tackle. Several times I saw as many as 5 "tacklers" with every handhold on the runner at the chest or above and all standing straight up. What the heck? This went for both teams. Yards after contact were plentiful to say the least.

Does "targeting" have them afraid to bring the hammer? Hell, I don't know, is targeting even called in HS football in Texas?

Victoria West won 45-17, and gets the award of playing Kerville Tivy next week. Better get some fundamentals work in the next 6 days.

Heads up tackling is a requirement, but I agree that it seems like kids don't understand angles, leverage, how to grab on and twist or drive someone down.

Coaches are probably more afraid than ever of having kids hurt or dinged in practice, and more kids don't grow up playing outside for fun, getting thousands of extra tackling reps when they are in grade school on the playground or in someone's backyard.

The sad part to all this is that the BMA's still want that old B12 type of coaching. It's laughable.

Synopsis

I wonder how or why this style of play became so popular in Texas. Not only Texas, but face it, Texas is one of the most fertile grounds in the country for football. Is it a focus on offense in high schools coupled with a lack of focus on defense? If so, why?

if any watched the wv vs. tu game, wv's cornerback HAS to be a Texas HS product.

sips' backup te catches a 5 yard pass at about 8yd line in flat (slow developing) and turns to run into endzone.

CB has a clear shot umblocked, comes in and ducks down, launches his body low, doesnt ise his arms and misses the giant TE completely.

I was watching the Fox Sports High School round up last night and I was shocked at some of the scores they were showing now granted some of these teams were undefeated playing teams 1 and 9 but still the scores are crazy high

Dallas football has become the big 12.

Houston football is the SEC.

Just out of curiosity I check out the top high school teams in Florida (IMG, American Heritage, Central (Miami)) to see what their defense gives up. 27 was the most I saw out of the top teams.

And here's their playoff schedule for 8A. There were a couple teams blown out, but there was never a shootout.

Hmmm...lets see...last year...

Highland Park wins the state championship 16-7.
Aledo wins the state championship 24-16.
DeSoto wins the state championship 38-29.

Maybe if some more Houston teams made the championship game all those schools from DFW wouldn't have won giving up 52 combined points!

The offensive explosion in Texas HS football is because of 7 on 7.
aggie50
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes its because 7 on 7 and for some reason they put the 6 best skill position players on offense. Its across the board the best athletes play offense and defense gets the left overs. Only so many touches during a game so i dont understand it. It affects the recruiting on d for all Texas schools.

Yeah, that's why they're courting Jimbo Fisher.

My kids go to a private school in the Dallas area. 7 on 7 is partly to blame. At our school, it is the same system through out. These boys are learning the same Offense from 7th grade. Their games are videoed and the kids watch "game film" with their fathers. The father's know the O. When they do 7 on 7, while they can't have their coach be from the school... the 7 on 7 is the same O.

THEN... when public schools have multiple QBs that are good... the backup usually transfers to the private school, ensuring great talent.

Defenses can just not be developed consistently enough for the depth established on Offense.

It used to be PATs were for 2pts because those extra points are often the difference at the end of the game.

We're not the only state that's 7 on 7 crazy. It's been ten years since Adidas sponsored the first national tournament and it's used all over the country. I think it started in California like 30 years ago (maybe someone here actually knows).
