This is my problem with Jimbo. Maybe I am wrong, but the whole Jamies/rapist thing is just so off-putting. Maybe he was kept in the dark, but I doubt it.

What does this Winston story have to do with Jimbo?

He defended Jamies at fsu. Now more of the same behavior appears to occurred. Connect the dots.

The real damning thing would have been the 2013 rape case while Winston was at FSU still. It really felt like a huge cover up by FSU campus police and the fact that university finally settled with the accuser for around a million dollars does not look good.

I would love to hear from the resident Jameis Defenders. There are many people on this board who still think he didn't rape that girl.

We've always known that stealing crab legs is just a gateway crime.

And that's sort of the problem. So far, he is innocent. It doesn't look good to kick a kid off the team for an allegation that is never proven.

On the other hand, if they know he did it, or feel really confident that he did it, and went through measures to cover it up, then that's pretty despicable and not only should he not be coaching here, he should be in jail. Of course, money talks and the girl took what they gave her, so I doubt we'll ever know the truth.

Hyperbole.

There might be a few posters who believe that but to say that a majority of posters think Winston was innocent is pure BS.

I would say it's actually the opposite, I'd say a majority of people on this board think he did. Not sure why you think that?

I don't know either way. And the accuser didn't do a great job helping anyone understand exactly what happened.

There were normal and there were abnormal reasons why that case didn't go further than it did.

But we're not considering hiring Winston.

We're talking about hiring Jimbo and as far as any evidence that's come out, the most we can do is say Jimbo fell back on the case being dropped so to not personally suspend Winston for whatever may have happened.

We don't have evidence that Fisher was part in any of the shady things that went on before the case was dropped.

This is the least shocking news ever.

As far as the old case, Jimbo was told by Jameis and didn't report it as a title 9, and instead of being punished, he got a raise and extension because they won that year,
Somehow, the defendants lawyer was told before his clients were questioned, so the phone that allegedly had the video evidence disappeared, and statements were already prepared.
The girl was run off campus, and Jameis was given the heisman and the number one overall pick. And this after he also was busted for stealing crab legs, for shooting out windows and almost certianly lying to to the police when they asked him why he was carrying a B.B. gun that day (he said he was rabbit hunting), for getting into a confrontation at BK, and then after all of that, getting up on a table and joking about sexual assault. He missed one game, and that was only after a public outcry.

that is the culture you would inherit.

By the time Jimbo was told the police and district attorney were already involved, Jimbo didn't need to report anything

Not that arrests happen.

Yep, letting him play after shooting out windows, shoplifting and being accused of rape without even having him miss a snap. It took him joking about sexual assault publicly from on top of a table while under a rape investigation for anything to happen, and then it was a half game, which only became a full game when there was a public outcry.
As for Jimbo, he claimed ignorance of the title 9 policy, which is at least in part what Briles got roasted for here (deservedly). But it was a once in a coaching life type of player and he played him at all costs. The school ate the million it gave her with a huge smile given the money they made off of him and a girl in Arizona is now allegedly paying the price for enabling, as is the girl who couldn't go back to school in Tally because she was run off campus. It was everything wrong with big money football.
Honestly I would prefer Fisher to leave, he has done well against us, but it's not about that. And for the charges of hypocrisy, I reached out to my university president last year about Calloway - some things are bigger than football. But fewer and fewer people same to feel that way as time goes by.

The suspension went to a full game when they caught him lying to administration about the incident at the student union.

Don't take too much credit as a member of the public for getting that suspension lengthened a half.

He was immediately suspended for the crab legs, it was in the spring during his baseball season and hence it was dealt with then.

Have you ever seen me defend Meyers discipline here? I was happy Meyer left. And as I said above, I reached out to the university president about Calloway, it doesn't matter where it happens, wrong is wrong. But moral equivalencies or "x was worse" aren't valid arguments.
One of the reasons I like posting here is because A&M has values that you uphold, you are generally honorable. Fisher would be about putting winning over values.

But I have said enough, I will let you get back to your coaching search.

I don't think folks so much roast Briles for telling a superior about a possible rape...

They roast him for not telling anyone or working with his superiors to ensure news of 30 someodd rapes didn't ever make it to the proper office(s).

Look, there is plenty that FSU can be criticized for as far as the Winston rape case...can we resist the urge to keep comparing it to Baylor?

I have my concerns and have raised them on the UF boards. I wold prefer someone with a clean background.

But I would say that if we hire a guy who puts us on probation for paying a shady recruiter again, not only would we get what we deserve, but that it's not exactly a moral equivalence to enabling sexual assault.

Of course it's not Baylor scale nothing is. But you know there was a second alleged victim as well right? Never fully investigated either, but the university knew, so I would be shocked if Jimbo didn't.
The point of that reference though is whether it's one girl or 30, they both put football and winning games above the well being of students, which is unconscionable and why I get so bothered by it. I hate UGA, but as a university and AD I respect them. Same with Tennessee, even when we laugh at them (as they do us I'm sure). FSU that ended with this story.
