I've tried extremely hard to keep my composure, but it is really hard with all the potbangers who want their cake and the prim queen, while everyone else stands on the sideline. Well this one is for th President, AD, Texags and every other disgruntled, fault finding Aggie out there.

FACT:
1. Our school is a great place even with all its faults, but lets be clear, there have been (3) claimed National Championships, the last of which was 1939 (77 yrs). We won 17 Conference Championship in the Southwest Conference in the 60 years we were in the conference and only (1) in the Big 12.

2. Outside of RC we've never kept a coach longer than 6 yrs. Now in Sumlin's 6th season we're screaming win now. Even though he has posted a winning record every season he's been here.

3. We have a .600 win percentage as a program. In the school's history.

4. Kevin Sumlin is .676 at A&M in the toughest conference we have ever been in!!

So stop with all the negativety! Support what our staff is trying to get done so that we can haul in another great recruiting class. We are 4-2 and 2-1 in the SEC. Nick Starkel's is out of his boot, Mond has imoroved every week and we came out of the Bama game healthier than any time in the past, to my knowledge. I mean really what do you want? You really want to dethrone Bama, well that will take time... Don't think that a multi-million dollar facility and a fat contract will make it happene over night. It still takes time.. We are in the SEC West (5 yrs) and asking for immediate results to rival those of a program(s) that have been in the SEC since its beginning.
So unless the Texags, the AD or the President amd regents have found the next coming of Nick Saban, stand up and xheer as loud as possible and be a Positive Aggie!! Gig 'Em!

He may be .676 in all games, but In the SEC (where it really matters), the record is 23-20.

Oh ok. So I don't need to worry about that UCLA game when taking into account whether Sumlin should be here next year or not.

Love this post - about time someone brought this to everyone's attention.

Had no idea things were this bad. Why didn't someone say something sooner instead waiting until halfway through year six?

This is a must read! Thank you Texags!

As far as I'm concerned we've won one NC and it was in 1939, right before our boys shipped off for the war

We should have won more B12 champs. We should also be competing for SEC titles.

This is something that is actually concerning to me. We've fired every coach dating back to... Sherrill? I hope Sumlin does well and avoids firing, I dont want to be known for firing every coach that comes through here.

True. Though his record against teams that matter is lower than that and I think he can do better with the talent we have. I used to be all in on the fire Sumlin bandwagon but I realize he's up against some crazy competition and I really do want him to do well here.

I like Sumlin and hope he's successful here. Can we see how he does through the end of the season before we either extend him or fire him?

We played well last night and we've gotten better as the season has gone on. But we lost last night.

Let's beat Florida and see how things go.

This game was simply a lost opportunity. Sure we made it close on the scoreboard but by accident. Two great catches by the receivers made it close. Two miraculous catches.

Poor clock management on the part of the HC and the QB. Who is coaching this guy?
Poor coverage on Alabama passing over the middle. We need to cover. Just see how close Alabama covers.

When Mond threw the interception the receiver was totally covered by two defenders. The pass should have never been thrown.

The D was very good. I would have like to see better containment of the Alabama QB but overall very good.

I could go on. Sumlin will never ever be a winner in the SEC. Never. Now I ask the admin is this what you want?

Not me as an alumnus.

Figured you guys would make this counter point, well outside of Saban and McElwain .560 by Malzahn and .535 by Sumlin are the next best records among current SEC Head Coaches!! Really what do you want????? His record is more than respectable in a tough congerence. So are you really trying to change the culture here or exist like we have for years??

Why would you not consider our national titles awarded in 1917 and 1919 as legitimate? True, they are ancient, but so too is 1939.

We should have won more B12 champs. We should also be competing for SEC titles.

No argument here.

I don't get this sarcastic comment. I look at the all-time winning percentages in terms of tiers - 1 through 10, 11 through 20, etc. Texas A&M comes in at #20 all-time with a .602 winning percentage. This is right in with a group of schools such as - Clemson (.607), Arizona State (.608), Virginia Tech (.608), and Washington (.613). Others in the second tier are Auburn (.629), Florida (.630), Miami FL (.633), LSU (.650) and Georgia (.650). Are we not always told that schools like Florida, LSU, Auburn, and Georgia are blue blood programs in the SEC? Yeah, the majority of our victories have not come while playing in the SEC, but nevertheless we are in the same vicinity as many of these programs. Is it "neato" that Florida has a .630 winning percentage, the majority of which came since 1990 once Steve Spurrier got that program going.

I was done with Sumlin after last season's collapse, and the UCLA game this season did nothing but throw gas on that fire. But I've always maintained that I'd much prefer Sumlin right this ship and take it to where we'd like to see it go rather than jettisoning Sumlin and his staff and start over yet again.

I too was done with Sumlin after UCLA. On the edge after the inexcusable collapse of 2016 then UCLA did it for me. Now that I've somewhat calmed down about it, I really do want him to improve rather than firing everyone and starting over. Firing a coach is not some sort of panacea like people think it is. It is an absolute last resort.

Do you realize that it's not about settling... You can't fix the last 60 years of stigma, lack of action and a generally average program in 6 seasons. Especially not in the conference we are in and To Low Talker if you think we can, please oh please tell us how. We all would love to celebrate a Natty on Northgate!

Sumlin's future at A&M rides on the next 6 games. IMHO he needs to win 5 of them to really show that he can get the job done long term.

I want him to succeed because I think it's the quickest, most painless path to winning at a high level.

Deputy Travis Junior
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sumlin hired:
-Mckinney, Spavital, and Mazzone as OCs
-the OL coach who steadily "developed" our OL from one of the best in CFB to a below average one
-Snyder as DC

As for games, he presided over 59-0, UCLA the Mississippi games last year (particularly awful because of our playoff ranking and the snark that the talking heads gave us), Kansas State, an 0-5 record against LSU, Auburn at home 2 years ago, and more. Basically, Sumlin should send Bert a nice Christmas card because he's given Sumlin like half of his SEC West wins.

Yes he has done a solid job recruiting (though not as great as people think, which is why we're playing so many fish this year), but we're the only SEC school in Texas, we built him palatial facilities, and gave him nearly an unlimited budget. Lots of coaches would recruit well in that situation.

The coaching, though... The data points I listed above clearly demonstrate that he's an average at best at the coaching and hiring elements of his job. That is not something that will change at this stage of his career. You can say he's building something blah blah, and yes we'll have some nice rosters from time to time, but he's always going to be the coach who can pull the UCLA collapse out of his hat or think that 28 year old Spavital is a good hire. That's not a championship coach with any roster. Ever.

How many years will it take to fix then, when players are on the team a maximum of 5 years, and our average is more like 2 years?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
That would require finishing 6-0. Absolutely nothing of Sumlin's tenure points towards that type of October/November. But maybe this season is going to be different.

applemac_g4
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Six years into a coach's tenure, whatever may be done or said "give him more time" isn't one of them. It is what it is. What you see is what you get with Sumlin. If that's OK, keep him. If the program has higher aspirations, replace him.

If we're using Saban as a benchmark, after his third full season at Alabama the man had two BCS bowl wins and a national championship on the shelf. Not including this year, he is 120-19 as coach of the Tide.
TMartin
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Trying to put all this in perspective Sumlin seems to have been his own worst enemy. Granted it was A&M's problem for overpaying/extending him which gave Sumlin a false sense of what he need to accomplish.
