No, that's almost certainly not because Jason Cook left. It's a brand wide, conference wide thing from Addidas that they would have been working on for months at this point.

I realize this was in the works but Jason Cook has been very vocal about his feelings about Texas Aggies and he was against it.

Jason Cook was all about making A&M more like other universities, not highlighting the aspects of A&M that make us unique.

When Cook allowed that embarrassing video to get out (Aggies doing the yells and cheers from other SEC schools) he blamed everyone on TexAgs saying that Aggies were too sensitive. Aggies weren't the problem, his stupid cringe-worthy video was.

Jason Cook didn't graduate here and was here only for the paycheck.

How he got authorization to override our identity as the Texas Aggies with his "branding" is beyond me.

The throwback uniforms are great.

On Gabe's radio show, Jason mentioned he didn't put Texas Aggies in the endzone because it didn't "rate nationally". He was more concerned with outside perception.

Then I am sure you can explain the Texas aggie merchandise that came out while he was here.

Or do you just pick and choose which facts to acknowledge and which ones to ignore.
If you are trying to say that Jason Cook supported "Texas Aggies", you don't know what the hell you are talking about. If you would say anything about Texas Aggies to him or say how we should use it more, it would instantly say that we are the Texas A&M Aggies and we should not use the other term because it was confusing to fans.

Just like coaches are "just employees and not Aggies"! It's all about the power and control with a huge ego.

When football rankings were put out, even back in the 1950's, and we were listed as the "Texas Aggies" everybody knew who we were.

The new seal is incredibly hideous and embarrassing. It looks as if someone spent 30 seconds copying and pasting a stupid beveled t-shirt logo into our historic University Seal that dates back to 1947. On the new seal the "weight" is wrong as the thick aTm logo doesn't match the thinner detail of the outer rings. It also seems redundant to have T A and M in the center of the seal and Texas A&M University on the outside. Is that really necessary? I am surprised that no one in power has taken a closer look at how the new seal represents Texas A&M University and the Texas A&M University System.

At least the students convinced President Young to keep the old seal on the diplomas so that they wouldn't have to display that crap on their degree that represents 4 or 5 years of hard work and dedication. SO NOW WE HAVE TWO SEALS - the new one is used on all current communications (websites, letterhead, etc.) and the old one for diplomas. Also, around campus representations of the old seal (inside the Academic Building, on parking garages, etc.) will not be changed.

University Seal - November 3, 2015 post by The Real Stuff

November 3, 2015

During my first semester here at Texas A&M, I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet countless students and various student groups from across campus. I continue to be deeply impressed with the vibrant passion you have for our school, a passion and commitment that is simply unparalleled at any other university in the country.

Numerous discussions have taken place between myself and student leaders, as well as with you individually, on various issues, but one that has repeated itself many times in these conversations is that of the symbol that would be on your diploma from Texas A&M. The passion I reference above clearly manifested itself in an apparent desire to have the former, historic seal represented on your degrees.

Based on the information your student government leaders have provided, and in direct talks with Student Body President Joseph Benigno and other student leaders, I have respectfully forwarded to the Chancellor and the Board of the Texas A&M System for consideration that future diplomas from Texas A&M still carry the former seal, or what I have called the graduation seal. I am told that the issue will be placed on the next agenda in November, and will be placed on the consent agenda. Consent agenda items, unless removed, pass without debate.

While the new University seal will still be used in conjunction with the Office of the President and on official communications, the request to the system would allow for an exception to be made for diplomas. This small exception would still allow us to follow our one brand approach, yet grant all of you the seal you seem strongly to prefer on your diplomas.

I am grateful for the chance I have had to learn from you the importance of this issue and I am grateful to our great Chancellor and Board for their willingness to consider this request.

Sincerely,
Michael K. Young
President
Texas A&M University

That's not the problem. In theory, objectivity would be a great asset to your all-seeing marketing guru.

People only really have a problem with Cook because he was a self-serving bureaucrat who took credit for everything positive in his tenure, denied blame for anything negative, blurred our branding almost beyond recognition, and queefed on the way out the door.

That Brent Z piece tells me everything I need to know about the guy.

Thanks for the "Golden Age," Jason Cook; we all know you were the real Heisman winner...in your incredibly deluded, arrogant, sociopathic mind.

Honest question: Do you believe for a nanosecond that Cook possessed national marketing research data showing how "Texas Aggies" rated (presumably in the annual "National Collegiate Endzone Artwork Perceptions Index, 2016 Edition") or do you think he just dropped some marketing guru language whenever he was asked a question on something he didn't care about?

If you ever work with consultants, you get this kind of BS all the time when they don't feel like defending a position or don't know the real answer to your question.

He very well may have data as to recognition of "Texas Aggies", "Texas A&M", etc. That study wouldn't be hard to do.

I didn't read or hear this particular statement other than as stated above, but I don't see where it says Jason Cook was talking specifically about the end zone rating nationally; he's likely talking about the phrase "Texas Aggies"---where its painted or drawn or stitched on is probably somewhat beside the point.

as far as I'm concerned Cook did a sh t job at partnering with Adidas to create some really good sports wear. I've bought very few Aggie things in the last few years because there is mostly terrible Texas A&M merch out there.

Cook's character aside, and yes, I actually like "Texas Aggies", too, isn't not using "Texas Aggies" an effort in the direction of de-blurring our branding?

"Texas" can never stand alone as a branding thing for us. "Texas A&M" can. "Aggies" can (though not quite as well). But not Texas. We're not "Texas", we're not "Texas University", that's those hippies in Austin.

This. You have to search the dark corners of the interwebs just to find a decent Aggie ball cap.

AO had tons of plain maroon, white, or black caps that only had the ATM logo or the lone star logo with an adidas logo. Hell, I sold four of them on classifieds a few months ago.
