Key notes from Kristi Dosh interview

  • It was exciting to see Texas A&M ranked number four in the College Football Playoff rankings.  As a Florida grad, A&M is a team that I have gravitated to since they joined the SEC.

  • Following the College Football Playoff committee and participating in the mock committee was one of the coolest things that I have ever been involved in since being a part of the media.

  • The committee starts with a clean slate every single week and the process is exactly the same week after week. Each member brings in a list of 30 teams for consideration to be in the conversation for the top-25 ranking.

  • The members come in with their 30 teams and input them into a computer and the rankings are completely anonymous.

  • During the mock selection process, the entire staff was present and were very helpful throughout the whole experience.  It was nice to have some of the committee members there to provide guidance.

  • No factor is stronger than another in deciding.  Each committee member makes decisions based on how they feel, what they see and what they want.

  • The committee does not use a ‘13th Data Point’ and it is not something that is discussed.  An interesting factor that is used is the ‘Championships Won’ data point.

  • The committee members go in and input their top 30 teams in no particular order.  Then a software program compiles a consensus top-25. From then on the committee breaks down the list by starting with a vote of which teams should be in the top three.

  • I personally never had an issue with the College Football Playoff. My appreciation is now greater for this committee as they are tirelessly working at this from week nine on. When they aren’t there, they are still analyzing games and teams from an iPad.

  • Being on the College Football Playoff committee is an enormous amount of work and now that I have seen the process, I cannot imagine a better process to determine this.
