Lets begin with the fact that BAMA's grown man linebackers look like defensive lineman for other schools.

Lets add that THIS is what happens when you don't play 5* recruits until they are juniors. They eat, lift, and watch film for 2 years, and the willingness to put in the EXTRA work watching more film helps them WIN a spot in the starting lineup when they are Juniors.

The PROCESS has many facets. This is one of them.

Nick is the King for a reason.

Absolutely right. It's the power of depth. But you can't get there until you have the players to do it.

I feel like we are closer to Alabama than we have been since joining the Big 12, even including the year we won. But they still have an advantage at probably 7 to 9 of 11 position on the field at any given time.

agreed. we're close, but still far...

Getting the depth at the 7-9 players positions will take time, but it can be done with winning....

Getting the depth at the 17 "consultants" should be easy. You just open the checkbook.

I'll start the "consultant" list for next year....

1) Mark Helfrich
2) David Beatty
3) Vance Bedford
4) Ed Ogeron
5)
6)
7)

I agree. We have two interior linemen that are freshmen, which weren't ready for Jonathan Allen and a MILB that's good and getting snaps, but is also a freshman. Then you could go to sophomores and 1 year players, which we have many. It is about depth. And line of scrimmage. We're getting there, but where we want to be doesn't happen overnight with what we had when KDS started.
SARATOGA
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What we had when KDS started was an NFL offensive line. Losing Jim Tuner lost the pipeline to continue that, so a hole was created until we got him back.....

On the defensive side we actually had 2 NFL Linebackers which were the foundation of 2012. But again, the pipeline took a massive hit with the early departure of DeMontre Moore, and the loss of Golden and Claiborne and Walker; and Washington and Alaka struggling with injuries.

It's very concerning that the defense knows pass or run every play just by watching the OL stance.

Most of the really has little to do with picking up tells from an offensive line on the type of play call.

Most likely, a coach or someone noticed it either before the game or early on and the whole team new about it in about 5 seconds.

Nor do we need a bunch of depth to not give away play calls.

This was an issue last year as well. I believe during the Arkansas game last year, the announcers were commenting on knowing the type of play by how one of our lineman was standing. I believe it was Gennesy that time as well. After the comments, I noticed it was a big "tell". Still seems to be a problem.

And we will be taking a major step back next year when we lose the bulk of our senior leadership on defense. Hall, Garrett, Evans, Watts, Washington and a few others. If we were going to beat 'Bama, this was the year.

As a former linebacker it's not hard to tell if it's going to be a pass or run(or even which way the running back is going). Body lean, foot position, etc.

Wow! Bama was really bad back then. I didn't know we were that low during RC's years...

Nick is the king, but I'd be VERY shocked if all of what they're getting out of film study wasn't coming from their massive army of consultants versus these players constantly watching film.
SARATOGA
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You could bring back Von, and add JJ Watt.....you're still not beating Bama with 3 freshman starting on the offensive line....

So saying "this was the year" we had a chance to beat Bama is ridiculous.

The year we have a chance is the year Nick starts to get some Urb like heart palpatations. I think it is about 5 years away....

Those weren't run-pass options.

Would have been nice to have Claiborne on the field. Too bad he pissed it away.

Posted this on the other thread.

I mapped out the first 21 plays of the game. From what I can tell he had is leg back when we had no running back in the backfield or in obvious passing situations (3rd and 14 and 2nd and 10). There were many times his leg was up and we threw the ball. On some of these plays the defensive end took one step and then stopped as if playing run. It's hard to tell if some of these were RPOs. All in all his leg being back is as much a tell of a pass as it being 3rd and 14.

1 Leg is back. No RB. Obvious pass or QB draw.
2 Leg is up. RPO
3 Leg is up, pass play where we don't even run block
4 Leg is back, no RB.
5 Leg is up, sweep
6 Leg is back (3rd and 14) pass play
7 Leg is up run
8 Leg is up run
9 Leg is up run
10 Leg is up run
11 Leg is back (2nd and 15) pass play
12 Leg is up run (3rd and 2)
Second Quarter Harder to tell
13 Leg appears to be up play action pass on this play the DL doesn't get a good push and appears to be playing run so they may be mis-reading the tell
14 Leg is up run play
15 Leg is up bubble screen possible RPO
16 Leg is back (2nd and 10) pass play
17 Leg is up run play
18 Leg is up play action pass
19 Leg is up RPO
20 Leg is up play action pass
21 Leg is up play action pass, possible RPO

I'm on my phone (hence my brevity) and call total bull**** on that video. Go look at 2012's line.

That player is doing nothing other than regurgitating what his coach told him which is ultimately a maneuver to instill confidence between player and coach.

That game was closer than Alabama wants to admit, and they gave up close to twice as many rushing yards to three freshman and a couple of JUCO transfers.

There was about a five minute period that decided that game. They can pretend they're invincible, but I'd enjoy playing them again. Something tells me Saban would not.

It doesn't matter if he or is not regurgitating anything...coached or not, he's tipping the play or he's not.

What? Twice as many relative to what? They gave up 114 rushing yards on 38 carries, for a 3.0 average and we never ran for a score.

(For the record, they ran for 287 on 57 carries for a 5.0 average.)

Their average rush defense was about 60 yards.

Ask the 2012 line.

The premise is erroneous.

They afraid to play Kent State again too who ran 2.7 yards/carry?

They're not afraid of 114 yards on 38 carries. They know they won't stone everyone for 2 yards/carry.

If anyone's offense scared them, it was Ole Miss, 43 points, and 522 yards. (And 3.1 yards/carry.)

It doesn't matter the source, it doesn't matter who else did it: they're tipping plays or they're not.

Only relevance is deciding whether its worth tipping plays for another reason or if it is not. I would say ideally, kind of like a pitcher, you find a solution so you don't need to be tipping plays (or pitches).

Look at the line stances and splits from that year to this.

That pretty much narrows down the choices.

You should apply for a consultant job for Saban.
