Leach + Spurrier + Les Miles would be a commentator dream team. Gameday would be funnier than SNL.

The zoo loves 0-2 coaches who speak their mind.

I'm imagining their telecast would come from the back room of a Denny's. It would be glorious.

Leach calls out his team & his coaching staff (himself included), for inept play that lead to losses

Sumlin makes snarky comments to Gabe Bock.....

This isn't a hard one to figure out Champ, you must be off your game today

Leach embodies tech. Obnoxious but can be highly entertaining. I wouldn't want them as an employee.

I still don't understand why so many have a problem with Sumlin and his penchant for the media. He chooses to keep his coaching within the team and not in public. He has been consistent from Day 1 and the media knows this, yet they still ask him the same questions. That is the media's problem. Coach Pop does the same for the Spurs and I personally love it and respect it.

Pop has won a half dozen or so titles with an ever evolving team over 20 years. He has the skins on the wall to **** on the press conference table and throw it at the media like an ape if he chooses. Sumlin hasn't won anything. That's why he gets the same hard line questions over and over. Saban and Belichik are in the same boat as Pop, they win it all regularly, so they can answer questions however they want.

Pop was the same way with the media before all the titles. Media should learn to quit asking the same questions, knowing they will not get the response they want.

What does skins on the wall have to do with dealing with the media?

Leech needs to check himself for the horrible clock management last game where he was left with a timeout and the ball driving as the half ended

WSU's revenue is about the lowest in FBS power 5 conferences and is less than Utah.
http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/
They have only 18,000 undergrads in Pullman.
Their endowment is less than Yeshiva University
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colleges_and_universities_in_the_United_States_by_endowment
Their stadium seats less than the likes of Nevada and Boise
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_football_stadiums_by_capacity
In about every measure you can use to compare resources, WSU is at or near the bottom of all power 5 conference school. Considering what Leach has to work with, he's doing a damn fine job to finish last year at 9-4 with a Sun Bowl win over Miami, and WSU would be idiots to fire him anytime soon.

Leach tells the brutal truth. Last year, Allen was playing hurt and looked like it. But Sumlin said that Allen was just playing badly. Totally unfair how Sumlin handled Allen.

On the other hand. Kyler was a total punk primadonna. Sumlin did not say anything about him. Seriously, what kind of poosay refuses to go into a game. Kyler deserves to get gang raped by the baylor defenders who have not yet been indicted.

I guess I'm in the minority in that I prefer the way Sumlin handles these types of things. But Leach has his reasons and this has worked for him in the past.

If we didn't have Kyle Whittingham here at Utah, I would take Leach in a heartbeat. We haven't had a real character like that since Rick Majerus left.

I don't. The fans pay his bills, and the media is effectively the representative of the fans in the press room. I get that, as a coach, he probably gets tired of answering hypotheticals about his team. With that said, he's a representative of a professional organization, and I can't think of another profession where that kind of rude and arrogant behavior towards the consumer is tolerated.

The fact that only very successful coaches like Pop, Saban, Belichick, etc. get away with this should tell you everything you need to know about how "respectable" people think it is. It is tolerated because winning is the most important thing.

Why is it not a good comparison? Both are being defensive of their coaching. But Leach attacks his own team publicly, and Sumlin attacks the reporter asking the question. It's just funny to me how Texags is cool with a coach that does one, but not the other.

Good managers scold in private and praise in public.

I've never though much of Leach. He acts like a dbag and loathes A&M.

If I recall correctly, the whole "pirate" thing started as a jab at A&M, it's military culture and the Corps. I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like "if they want to pretend to be soldiers, that's fine. I like pirates, maybe we should pretend to be pirates".

That was as tceh's coach. He's done a number of interviews since then(some with texags in fact) where he's praised A&M a lot.

I believe he's asking him for peace and Leach has no idea what that word means.

Anybody can complain about their bad team. They dont hand out trophies for "telling it like it is". Here's an idea.. hire a guy who can put a team on the field where he has nothing but good things to say.

He's wondering why his assistant is quoting Point Break in the middle of a game.
