Interesting.

For years, television consultants have been telling college football decision-makers that their negotiation model is lax. Six major organizations the five power conferences, plus Notre Dame fracture the bounty by brokering separate deals with ESPN and Fox and NBC and CBS.

The NFL model is much better. All 32 teams, both conferences, unite to hammer out a deal, and all the zeroes to the left of the decimal point declare the success of such tactics.

Prediction: A&M is not in the "SEC" in 20 years. Conferences will merge.

This would be great for the big12, and wtflol for the conference it merged it.

Ultimately it's just a sports writer looking for clicks

Call me when the NFL has 116 teams.

Right....

Here's a merger idea....

I hope not. The SEC isn't a good fit culturally or academically. I still think we should have gone to the PAC. Mix in some Texas rivalries with the PAC South schools and that would be a fun conference.

Agreed
Disagree. The chaff in the current conferences will use their political connections on the Hill to stop from being relegated out of the money.

There are less than 64 programs, more like 35-40 programs that can command that type of hype and money.

Monopolies work in pro-sports. They do not in college sports.

Oh look! A sippy!

Guess you would like Stanford, UCLA and USC to spit on the FTAB? Because that would happen. There isn't a school in the PAC that would have ever accepted A&M. We embody everything they hate. (Well maybe the Arizona schools and Utah, but they are kind of pariahs themselves in the PAC.)

THIS. I was disappointed when this did not happen. I'd rather our university be associated with USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, etc. and maintain the Texas rivalry over what we got with the SEC.

My God, I hope you'll are joking. This is the first time in our history we have been allowed to compete on a level playing field, without having the NUT dictate our TV schedule and being thrown to the media and NCAA wolves every time the bongw*&@es got a splinter in their paw. Go ask Baylor how much they are enjoying their alliance with their old playground pals right about now. I hope we stay in the SEC for the remainder of my life (hopefully about another 40 years) and you'll can do whatever the hell you want after that.

This is bull***** I've spent a lot of time in southern California and it's very pro military. This isn't Vietnam. UC Berkeley would treat us better than Tech ever did.

Sure, it is. Probably why California is such a red state. Very conservative.

Is this a serious question? Wait until the 2017 USN&WR rankings come out next month for further evidence.

You don't think being associated with Stanford and Cal vs LSU and Mississsippi State makes a difference? A&M has dropped a lot in rankings since joining a conference full of "football schools".

When were we associated with Stanford & Cal?

We were associated with Oklahoma state and tech beforehand.

No. It doesn't affect our academic rating. That has to do with prof ratios, sat scores and acceptance rates.

A&M isn't a good fit culturally and academically in the SEC? Are you insane? TAMU is an old school, deeply southern Land Grant school. We are cut from the same cloth as MSU, LSU, Auburn, and Arkansas. We are conservative and have deep ties to the military and our founders had roots in The Confederacy.

How exactly does this equate to a common culture with ANY school in the PAC? Those are all schools that despise the military and foster a neo-Marxist extreme left wing culture. What the FK do we have in common with those bed wetting communists?

Academically, UGA and UF are very much our peers. The are also Land Grant schools. In fact, all the schools in the SEC are Land Grant except Ole Miss, Alabama, Vanderbilt, and USC.

The only Land Grant schools in the PAC are Arizona, OSU, and WSU. And other than that, I can't think of a damn thing we have in common with those schools.

I think you are smoking crack.

As for the OP, I think a Pac-BDF merger makes sense. The Pac needs the central time zone and the BDF needs some better partners. It won't be a 22 team league though, it will be 16 teams and it will be a shotgun wedding. That wedding will be held in a private, by invitation only, and it will be over before the schools left behind know what hit them.

You must smoke a lot of dope. The Bear Bryant connection with Alabama, and the other bad ass football teams that comprise the SEC make Texas A&M a perfect fit. Bring in Clemson and the picture of a class conference is complete. There isn't a finer group of teams in the nation.
