The Tennessean, out of Nashville, has posted a 64-team bracket to choose the SEC's greatest player. Unsurprisingly, Johnny was almost criminally underseeded and placed against a popular first round opponent, Derrick Henry. Equally unsurprisingly, Peyton Manning ended up in probably the easiest bracket.

Do with this as you will.

The title of the article is "Heroes of the SEC" which is misleading. The seeding seems to take pro careers into consideration. For example, Emmitt Smith seeded 7th vs Mark Ingram seeded 10th. Ingram had a better college career than Emmitt, although Emmitt clearly was one of the best NFL backs, ever.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

I must admit, the greatest player I ever saw in the college game, bar none --> Archie Manning.

The related article doesn't make it clear if pro career is considered. It just refers to the SEC's best player.

"Who is the best SEC football player in the last 50 years? We want all SEC fans to help us choose the best.
The Tennessean has released a 64-player bracket-style ballot that will allow fans to determine who deserves the coveted spot as the SEC's best over the past five decades."

As an Ag living in Nashville, I would love to hear the whiny Vol fans calling in to the talk shows when Johnny beats out Peyton.

I know who the greatest of all time in SEC is: JFF, no contest. He is also the greatest player ever to set foot on Kyle Field since 1955 when I began to attend games. He is also the greatest fool ever to leave A and M, as of now. He is still young however.

Manziel seeded that low is just stupid.

Manziel at 9... C'mon.

which means they seeded Manziel somewhere in 36-39 of the greatest SEC players of all time. What a joke.

The only reason he ends up outside of the top 5 is because the dude likes to party.

If the article was taking pro careers into consideration how does Tebow get a 1 seed?

You can make the argument that Tebow is the best SEC QB ever. Cam Newton might have been more dominant, but he only played one season in the SEC. Tebow played four, and was a dominant player in all of those years. He was the backup QB in 2006, but he still got a considerable number of snaps, and was a big reason why they won the title. In 2007, he won the Heisman and a loss to eventual nat'l champs LSU was likely the only reason why Florida didn't 3-peat. Then he led them to another title in 2008, and a loss to Bama in the SEC title game was the only thing keeping them from another title in 2009. He also won the Maxwell Award twice.

You guys didn't see much of Tebow since you were still in the Big 12 still at the time, but man, he was amazing. He went 3-1 against some really good LSU defenses and made us look silly. If not for Cam Newton, he'd be remembered as the best dual-threat QB in SEC history. Johnny Manziel was great too, but Tebow was a bit better, and a much better leader. His teammates would run through a brick wall for him. I thought he had a solid year in 2011 for Denver, and I don't know why he wasn't given more of a shot in the NFL, but I'm sure he's happy. It's really hard not to like Tebow. He's such a class guy.

No way a 1 or (dare I say it) 2 year player is even in the discussion of all time great SEC greats. Peyton, Archie, Tebow- all played 4 years. Sorry my fellow Ags, but we don't have a dog in this fight.

The very fact that Emmitt Smith (the NFLs all time leading rusher) is a #7 seed should tell you everything you need to know about whether a pro career was taken into consideration

In future years, people will look back at Johnny's highlights in sheer amazement. People tend to forget pretty soon, but the video is undeniable.

10,000 yards in 26 games, He was the greatest I ever saw. Here is the best way I can describe how great he was.

With pretty much the same talent on the field at other positions vs. Alabama

2013 with Johnny - Bama 49-42
2014 no Johnny - Bama 59-0

no doubt he was amazing, but you are dramatically under valuing the loss of Jake Matthews, Mike Evans and Ben Malena

Well in his bracket he isn't against a lot of 4 year players on offense.

Spurrier played 3 years and had 392 of 692 attempts, with 4,848 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.

Johnny destroyed that in 2 years with 595 of 863 attempts, 7820 yards passing and 63 Tds plus another 2000 yards rushing and 30 TDs.

Derrick Henry split time as a sophomore and was only the feature back/starter for 2 years.

Carl Pickens - only a starter for 2 years

AJ McCarron was a 3 year starter but his numbers don't match Johnny over any 2 years.

Jay Cutler had 4 years but come on...nothing close to Johnny.

Tim Couch had 2 years at Kentucky that actually do rival Johnny in passing but nothing close to him in rushing.

A lot of the others are defensive or linemen. Hard to compare anyway.

Johnny slipped past Henry in the first round and is solidly ahead of Spurrier, a #1 seed, in round two. Assuming he wins this one, it looks like he'll face Jack Youngblood in the next round, and he should have no problem dominating that one.

After that, he'll face Reggie White in the semifinals, which will probably be his toughest test yet since he's a UT legend and the poll is in a Tennessee paper.

If he gets to the semifinals, he'll almost certainly face Herschel Walker. At that point, I'll probably vote against Johnny, as I see Herschel as the greatest of all time in the SEC and expect him to defeat Tebow in the finals.

I actually think Bo is kind of overrated. He was a phenomenal athlete, but others had better college football careers. However, I don't think Peyton was a better player, but Peyton will beat him because the poll is with the Tennessean newspaper. That's the reason Carl Pickens survived the first round.

Wuerffel had a better college career than Peyton, both in individual (Heisman) and team (national championship) accomplishments, but he received a lower seed, and it looks like he'll be out in this round.
