All but one had a team full of studs around them as well.

Those other teams had studs that were drafted in the first round. Other than Oline, Mike, and Johnny, most of our 2012 guys that made it to the NFL were lower round picks and undrafted free agents.
I'm not saying they weren't good. They were damn good. They just weren't studs. Plus that team had no depth.

We can, and we should. List the things a program needs to compete at the highest level. What are we missing? I can only think of one thing - expectations.
No, I don't think texags has an effect on our football program in regards to looking ahead to an opponent, recruiting, scheme, etc. I do, however, think it has a very real impact on decisions made by our athletic department.
Look at auburn. Malzahn has gone 12-2, 8-5, 7-6. Sounds pretty familiar. Was anyone suggesting sumlin was on the hot seat after his 3rd year? Malzahn took over a team that went 0-8 in conference and if he doesn't win at least 8 this year, he's probably gone. And how do we know that? Has the AD made a statement? It's the vibe we get from their fan base. They won't accept another year where they aren't in the running for a conference championship.
That should be our mentality. Instead, here's a little of what we have seen in the past 3 seasons:
1. 11-13 in conference
2. 2-10 vs bama, lsu, ole miss and auburn (0-6 at home)
3. A winless season in conference at home for the first time in 45 years
4. 59-0 - the 2nd worst beating in our history
5. 3 consecutive seasons without a win against a team finishing in the top 20 for the first time in 30 years
6. 4 loss regular season with a returning heisman trophy winner (has that ever happened?)
7. 14 losses in the 3 seasons after winning a heisman (has that ever happened?)
8. Lost two 5 star qbs in a matter of weeks
Still, the majority here loves sumlin. The vibe texags gives off is that as long as we win 7 games, there's no doubt he'll get a 6th year. It's a clear sign we aren't serious about winning a national championship. His seat should be burning hot.
tl;dnr - until we expect to win a national championship we won't

Geez, its been a lousy 3 years. You are right, Sumlin should definitely be on the hot seat this year.

I guess you didn't read where Auburn recently gave Malzahn a contract extension. I guess they must be more stupid than we are when it comes to contracts if they are going to fire him right after giving him an extension if he has a less than spectacular year.

All it took was this generation's transcendent player. We recently had one of those as well...and unfortunately failed to fully maximize that opportunity.
