The Baylor Board of Regents are rumored to vote to reinstate Briles but give him a year suspension.

Sadly, no it won't. A media sh*t storm?, yes. But actual sanctions and forced removals of staff?, no.

The rhetoric from the school will be something in the area of, "We hold our leaders to be responsible and expect the most from them, even if they had limited (if any) knowledge of wrong-doing. Therefor, Coach Briles one year suspension is appropriate based on the response that he was given authority to have, given his limited knowledge of any alledged incident. Those who had direct knowledge have been terminated."
And because they are a private school, they don't have to (and won't) disclose any facts from the Pepper Hamilton report to further damn Briles. They can and will continue to hide behind their bs morals.

All that being said; I don't believe they'll bring that scumbag back... But it would not shock me.

They deserve the death penalty if they do that.

Baylor is completely irrelevant without football. They were barely relevant with Briles.

They decided a long time ago that they would win at all costs. Not surprised at all they are talking about this.

Won't be at ALL surprised when Briles is on the sideline in a year.

Would a wrongful termination lawsuit force baylol to release the full report?

No. The report is privileged attorney work product and full copies of the report exist only in the possession of the law firm that prepared it. The only way it will come out is if Baylor wants it to.

Litigation attorneys know how to handle "final" reports from "experts". " The Findings" is that report.

The rest of the notes supporting said findings are work product. Credit to Starr or Pepper Hamilton for knowing how to obfuscate and preserve that privilege. High stakes involved.

To me, it is indicative of SOP, but also indicative of bad pookie they found. If there was nothing really incriminating, they could have contracted for Pepper Hamilton to actually produce a true report.

What Hawg said.

But in general, anything prepared by an attorney, for a client, in anticipation of litigation is privileged as Attorney Work Product. The Pepper Hamilton report fits that description.

I think Briles and his staff will be back next year. They will place the blame on Starr and the lack of Title IX staff. I also predict he will be a bigger, arrogant, asswhole than ever.

Athletics need to be permanently suspended at baylor. What a sick situation and the vast majority of their fans still support Briles and want him back. Unrea what denial will do to a fanbase.

what's pathetic is that Baylor is so insecure...they don't think there is another coach out there that might achieve the same level of success

If that happens who is going to a game with a Rapelor sign? I can't believe all of this being reinstated is already coming up with the season not even beginning yet. They are so dumb.

Remember, there are those who wanted the entire Penn State athletic department burned to the ground, and child molestation is a far greater violation of norms than is heterosexual rape. If Paterno hadn't died, many would have supported the idea of him coaching still. Whatever happened to Penn State, divide it by 2. The U.S. doesn't really care about rape in the grand scheme of things.

In my years of watching college football I have noticed a pattern: the good teams typically stay good, and the bad teams typically stay bad.

Now, I'm not saying that teams can't fall or rise to prominence, but it's usually a lengthy process. If Baylor had slowly come up over say 10-12 years, then I wouldn't even think anything of it. But they went from consistently being 4-8/3-7 to 10-3 in two seasons. TWO seasons. You don't make that big a jump without breaking some rules. Another good example is Ole Miss and they're, surprise, under investigation.

Except that the actual perp in that case was sentenced to life in prison and he had already retired when Paterno allegedly first learned of the allegations.

My only guess as to why any Baylor booster, fan, and perhaps the BOR, depending on how this turns out, would think this is an appropriate path...they are looking at Penn State, Florida State, etc. as having gone through the ringer and come out just as good or at least just ok on the other side.

Two differences:

First, both of those schools were not dealing with a pervasive issue that could be linked back to multiple coaches and potentially implicate multiple players in rape allegations. You CAN NOT equate Baylor's situation to the previous two...and others as of late dealing with single incidents and/or individuals implicated.

Second, Baylor is Baylor...not Penn State or Florida State. There is no history. No legacy to fall back on. This is likely the reason the boosters are so dead set on bringing back Briles. They feel like they need him to keep this momentum going because there's no history of success. But it's that same lack of history that drive recruits, t-shirt fans, and revenues away from the school if they keep him. It's that same lack of history that will make it easier for the NCAA to act if they so choose. Baylor is playing with Monopoly money at this point, and I don't see any way they become relevant again in the near term. That's even more true if they keep trying to keep afloat on the SS Briles. It's sinking, and they seem to be willing to sink with him.

This is all about money.....they owe Briles $40 million unless they can show cause. Without releasing the report they can't show cause for the firing.

If they want to win the case and save $40,000,000 I would think they would have to release the entire report...otherwise how can they "prove" all the reasons they had to fire Art Briles.

Briles is so utterly corrupt that he might be threatening to spill the beans on the whole organization. Even the big boosters involved.

To me, that's the only reason Baylor would keep him around. They're all running scared but he has them by the balls.

We should refuse to play them in any bowl game should the possiblity come up. Never
in regular season in any sport. If reflects on us. While I know we are not perfect, what they did was willful
and ugly. Damaging to young women. They recruited thugs and covered up their crimes, all the way to the top. Drayton is threatening not to pay off the balance of the $250M he pledged to the stadium.

But the other side of it is that if they do release the report, their insurance that usually covers paying out civil lawsuits will probably give them the finger and they then have to foot all of those bills themselves. Not to mention that most people will likely stop donating if there comes out with mounds of evidence of them being ****heads.

They are screwed either way. Hopefully they choose to do the right thing while their ship is burning down though.

Seems like a lot of keyboard lawyering going on in this thread.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is a way that BU could use the report to justify their cause should Briles sue, without necessarily forcing it to become public record.

I don't think this has anything to do with trying to avoid Briles' payout - it has everything to do with big money donors fearing their program is going to sink back to its former state and they're doing the same thing with Briles that he did with those kids - "Ahh, shucks - this put a good scare into him, let's let him stay and help us win".

There isn't. Briles was an anomaly. The JFF of football coaches in Texas.

Nobody else will take that job, there's a reason they have been a doormat for decades.
