I second Rice '90. They walked off the field mid performance scattered from one 20 to the other.
Rice 90 was such a disgusting display by Rice. I was on the sidelines that day and it was ridiculous.

First, they let the owl wander around the field during our band's performance to screw up timing.

Then they sent their fake yell leaders over to taunt us.

Both blow up in their face. There was a pisshead on the field that was bout 6 foot 6, 270 pounds of solid muscle. When the fake yell leaders ran into him they turned like Ketch running from a salad.

Then, when the MOB took the field, we fired up a yell practice to drown them out. I remember a cheerleader coming over crying that we were ruining their homecoming.

First of all, why schedule a homecoming against a team that is going to spank you by thirty in the first place? Secondly, if you don't want sh*t to happen, don't be ******bags.

Rice game around 1983 in Houston. The MOB moved the bands field markers. It was absolutely surreal. Early on things started to look odd and by the end of the performance the band was spread all over the field split into groups all facing different directions. It was horrifying to watch.
Ditto. Seems to me they just stopped and all left the field. Both of the Rice fans put their philosophy books down long enough to clap quietly.

90% of y'all have no idea what y'all are talking about when it comes to band. Y'all think the aggie band is the best thing ever and everything else that performs sucks. Gets old hearing the aggie band never looses half time cause y'all think every other band sucks.

The biggest thing is you can't even compare the styles of the bands cause they are in a different category.

Your have 3 styles of marching band.
-Corps style
-Millitary
-Show band

All are great in their own right. And to each their own.

If Nevada would have brought a band last year, we may have lost that one. Part of the band got pretty visibly off the intended drill before recovering a few measures later.

The point of the halftime is to be entertained. PV was the most entertaining I've seen at Kyle Field

We do this thread every year.

The thing I find the funniest is that when we go on the road (and can actually afford to take our band) we're the novelty style that other fans never see.

But at home, "just another drill marching in lines and playing marches."

Our band won't go on the road. It's all or nothing, even though in the past the they have traveled with Juniors and Seniors. Still one of the biggest mistakes we continue to make. I can't believe more don't see the sheer ridiculous stance it is and how it is hurting our university.
Before it is brought up, I have donated to the band every year until they started the currentbstance. Change and I am right back donating.

It is a huge disappointment to go to the away game without the band and it needs to change.

That was 1981. Rice band blew whistles as well to disrupt the band.

Rice band blew whistles to throw off the band. Also had a huge phallic symbol that they pushed up and down while our drum major was leading the band.

I tried youtube, with no luck. I googled "Texas A&M Marching Band Rice disaster" and an article came up about it. It happened in 1981 and gave several theories as to how it happened. To be honest with you, I'm kind of happy that it's not on youtube; it was a horrible thing to watch and I don't want to see it again.
I was there. The MOB was on the sidelines with loud whistles. Threw the BQs off. That was the same game one of the MOB members brought a large paper machete phallus and was marching up and down the field imitating the BQ drum majors.

The main point of halftime is to go take a leak and get out of the sun for 20 minutes.

Could the seats in the upper zone be any closer to the sun? #ChandlerBing

Most of the HBCUs have what are known as Step Bands as they really perform more of a step dance routine with instruments.

Tennessee State has always had a great step band that also plays their instruments very well which makes for a great show. Love it when they would come to RKS whey they play EKU.

This thread is a perfect illustration of how New Army compares to Old Army.

Old Army takes pride in A&M and has no qualms about calling our Fightin' Texas Aggie Band the best. However, we do admit that the Longhorn band won halftime with their moving tribute after Bonfire fell, as it was the pinnacle of class.

New Army takes pride in recognizing how beautiful everyone else is and scold those old people who believe their is any objective way to measure anything. It makes them feel good to talk about how great non-Aggies are and how closed-minded we Aggies can be.

Screw New Army!

The Rice nonsense goes back to 1973 (anyone who was here will tell you just how big a deal it was at the time - you would have thought the Japanese had just attacked Pearl Harbor again from the reaction it provoked here on campus).

I'm sorry if I'm repeating one, although I did not see it as I read.

1974 while Baylor was beating Texas, we were not only losing to SMU at the Cotton Bowl, SMU's home field at the time, but the Aggie Band ... specifically the Block T crumbled supposedly due to extra whistles being blown by SMU fans or band members/"terrorists" on the sideline. Best I remember the band stopped playing and walked off the field.

tu band beat us twice, and both times we also showed what petulant children we can be.

1999 - they perform the classiest move ever on our field at the 'Bonfire Game'. When it's our turn, several of our band members wait until we're all lined up and then run off the field in protest of having to take the same field as tu.

2011 - they do a classy "thanks A&M" thing. We go for the saw 'em off formation.

Embarrassing.

To be perfectly and honestly fair, the FTAB is an outstanding marching band. As musicians, not particularly spectacular. As performers, not particularly inspiring. Prince, they are not.

Still the best halftime show in football, though.

There's a space between the comma and 270.
