Sumlin ought to be able to come up with that amount easily. He makes more than that in a day, right?

Website is pretty unclear about what specifically the money is used for, are we sure this isn't a violation? I'd hate for Trevor Knight to be ruled ineligible cause he got money from a booster to take a mission trip.

I have to believe the NCAA will rule this a violation and our entire team will be ineligble this year.

IS there an official message from the Athletic Dept regarding this. Just want to make sure it is not a scam or that it is not a violation.

According to my church, the IRS thinks that too.

I'm going on a mission trip in September and we were told to have donors write checks to the church designated to the "mission trip/the individuals name". The kicker is that they said donations were NOT tax deductible because it benefits the person going on the trip.

If the IRS thinks it's a benefit, then maybe the NCAA will too.

Maybe there is a bean counter on here that can give us some info.

That is true. A gift with a restriction to the direct benefit of an individual is not a gift to the church.

It's fine. As long as the opportunity is open to any student athlete, which it was; that all money raised goes to the charitable organization, which it does; and that all money, housing, travel, and food can be accepted as long as it is a necessary expense for the trip.

Tebow doing his fundraising and mission work while in school is a good example.

That doesn't ease my worries at all. It says nothing about the donations being allowed under NCAA rules.

That's the info I was looking for, would be nice if that was on the donation page.

A group of 29 student athletes from Texas A&M University are giving their time this week to serve people in the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. The group, including quarterback Trevor Knight and 14 other football players, are on a mission trip through Mission of Hope, Haiti (MOH).

Knight, who transferred to A&M from The University of Oklahoma, is a veteran of Mission of Hope, having gone on 3 previous trips while at OU. He believes the experience is life changing.
