Obviously "he's ass, my dude" is grammatically incorrect as "ass" is neither a verb nor an adjective, and as a noun it would need to be modified with the conjunctive "an" in order to be acceptable.
I think we've been missing the real meaning behind Tate's DM -- "ass" is an abbreviation for "a sure-fired starter". So Tate was saying he felt good about coming here to compete for the job, and liked the fact that Stark would increase our depth at the QB position in case he ever got hurt.
