Coming up at 9:30 Central. a panel discusses why we can't keep QBs. Ugh.
quote:
thanks for giving them more publicity.
quote:I found Kyle Allen's TexAg's account. How many more times are you going to blame Johnny for your bratty attitude?
The worst thing that ever happened to the college football QB attitude is JFF and Winston winning Heisman. Now they all think they should start as a true freshman.
Combine that with a coach mishandling the issue and *boom*.
quote:Although this specific talking point should have been investigated further, I thought it was fair segment. The jest of the round table was about the state of A&M football. Finebaum is correct in saying Sumlin really hasn't improved the program since Johnny left...the SEC record in particular speaks for itself.
Horrible. Said 8 QBs have left the program since Johnny.
-Showers
-Davis
-Stewart
-Joeckel
-Hill
-Allen
-Murray
-Martell
Really?
quote:I wouldn't mind having our own Brandon Weeden.
I don't know how Kohl Stewarts baseball career is progressing...any chance he pulls a "he who should not be named because he is the father of a snivelling little brat" and returns to college football? he has never enrolled anywhere as far as i know so still would have 4 years eligibility.
Would be nice to have a more senior type guy even if it was baseball, i am sure it has matured him more than these 18 year old punks.

Really? Come on man! While true that people have left, how about some context. Seriously, nothing but a hit piece. I hate that we give them the ammo though. At this point only winning will shut them up.
quote:This is nothing new, just talking by ESPN trying to make more of nothing and get viewers. Of the 8 QBs, 2 of them could be talked about when asking if we have problems with QBs.
Horrible. Said 8 QBs have left the program since Johnny.
-Showers - Graduated and was going to be a backup to Heisman Trophy Winner
-Davis - Lost on the depth chart, tranferred to play (This is a good problem at big time programs)
-Stewart - Baseball
-Joeckel - Graduated and would have been 3rd string behind Hill and Allen
-Hill - Beat out by 5 Star QB, transferred for playing time.
Allen and Murray do raise red flags on the program. Regular fans will never know the true story and the details, but it is concerning that two five star recruits transferred out the same year.
-Allen -
-Murray
-Martell - Give me a break. A recruits opens up his choices after an OC change then eventually decommits. Martell should not be on this list.

Yeah, ESPN has been piggybacking off the Zoo for way too long, if you ask me.

Not this **** again.......
Three left because they didn't want to sit behind Johnny.. One left for a million dollar paycheck in the MLB. And one of those never even came to A&M in the first place.
So cut your list of 8 down to 3 and you MIGHT have a point.

Maybe there is something about the way the competition for the starting job is handled. Kliff had some guys bailing from Tech too. Guys that could have seen playing time.
I'm also a little surprised that at least one of Showers and Davis didn't stay considering Johnny was an undersized DT QB. It's amazing the guy didn't miss 5-5 games over his two years.
quote:Expecting Hill and Allen to handle pressure at that age is a little too much. Some guys can at that age but very few. Both of these guys may end up being really good and on an NFL roster.quote:quote:I don't get the Joeckel, Hill, and Allen transfers. Joeckel graduated already, was third on the depth chart, and was a career backup here. Hill and Allen were the same, both really good, but couldn't handle pressure. I'd assume most Ags would rather have Knight/Hubenak over Hill/Allen any day.
Its amazing how many people think two 5 stars with a locker room divided is some how better than two veteran qb's that aren't as good, but work together to give the team the best chance at winning.

quote:
While a bit strongly worded, this is accurate.
You guys are trying to rationalize more top tier QBs leaving than anyone has ever experienced at any other program. That is a problem.
Acting like we didn't want any of them or trying to rationalize each one of them is silly, in the aggregate, it is bad they all left.
quote:You don't know that Hill was an alcoholic. Yeah, he may have been drinking to deal with the immense pressure to live up to Johnny. He may be started at TCU.quote:

Joeckel had already graduated and was third string (behind Manziel and Hill). Hill was an alcoholic/addict that self destructed mid-season.
Allen was not handled well by our staff. At the same time, he had his own temper tantrum and left before the bowl game rather than wait to see how the OC situation shook out.
Murray is cancer.
quote:Don't know about the 100 out of 100 but the rest is spot on. There also have not been too many programs that have pulled in so many talented QBs in such a short time.quote:

Nobody is trying to rationalize all of them.
It is stupid to think that Joeckel, Showers & Davis leaving had anything to do with a wheels off program.
It had everything to do with the fact that they were all multiple years into the program when they watched a fish win the Heisman and solidify the starting job, or so they thought, for the rest of their careers. Those three were gone 100 times out of 100 regardless of the program.
Then Johnny bails and we basically found ourselves in a situation where we were rebuilding the position which is tough.
Not justifying all the moves that have been made or saying all of it was handled well, but it is idiotic to quote those 3 QBs as part of some sort of trend line indicating a problem.
