Doesn't matter, he still screwed up and Tosu is now the laughing stock of college sports because he was too important to recognize his own recruit. He is also trending downward, and lost all his talent to the draft early....

No idea why he hasn't been fired yet.

Nice false analogy and hyperbole there kiddo.

We are not the laughing stock of cfb for what happened yesterday, that was not the point to be made.

The point to be made was that it was childish of the coach to act that way.
Nobody wants Moorehead fired (well maybe a few but idk where they are), but it was really dumb to call out an 18 yo on twitter. Dude's 30 in the business of getting people to break commitments and loyalty. He also took his current position by leaving VT from the same position.

What is bad is that we can't seem to stay out of the negative press - same with Baylor and Ole Miss. That is the point to be made. Martell's loss was somewhat significant, but not that big of deal. It's just a recruit. They jump ship/ jump on all the time. But for a grown man to act like that? Really? But no please, continue.

Do you idiots (gopgabe specifically) think I'm being serious?

I'm pointing out how ridiculous the rhetoric has been on this forum (not just since moorehead's tweet, in the months and year prior). There is no logic to your millennial whining and BAS... just like their is no logic to this thread. You all blame the most ridiculous crap on sumlin etc, while flipping out and cliff jumping over the most ridiculous & inconsequential stuff.

... this is like trying to have a conversation with a rock. Morans.

Who's in charge of the program, dipstick?

Sumlin is responsible for overseeing everything.

Ohio State had a QB controversy, and how did that end?
He made us go through the most embarrassing loss since Fran, 59-0.
Nobody's cliff jumping over this. It's just funny to see someone mismanage something this badly.

You don't think urban Meyer has had other recruiting issues since landing at tOSU? He hadn't even coached a game before getting his first recruiting infraction... which he lied about until he found out he was caught on camera.

It's urban Meyer you idiots... are you actually delusional enough to think he runs a clean and tidy program?

My point is that EVERY school has these issues, even the ones that are currently near the top. It's YOUR unwarranted reaction that's the biggest problem.... So can we please stop cliff jumping over the most trivial crap..?

Oh, I understand now. You JUST STARTED following Aggie football. You haven't even seen one season yet.

No one is saying because of this, and this alone the last few days Sumlin should go. It's the cumulative situation.

It's the fact he has finished significantly below expectations on the field 3 years in a row.

It's that he had not one, but two kids who were given the starting QB position here and decided to transfer. It would be bizarre for one kid to be given the starting QB position at a school of a&m's caliber and decide to transfer. 2 is a massive red flag.

It's that he was given lightning in a bottle with the greatest player in a&m's history and wasn't even able to win a BCS bowl with him here.

It's the fact that he was given one of the best offensive lines in college football history when he arrived here, and in 2 years he let our oline slide dramatically with Ifedi (who was originally a recruit of the previous staff) being selected entirely on talent and as scouts have said he knew no technique.

It's that he is an offensive coach and we had a terrible offense last year.

No one thinks Sumlin should be let go because of this incident. People think he should let go because this is just part of EVERYTHING ELSE he's done or failed to do.

Meyer has lost one regular season game in 3 years at Ohio State. He's won a national title at Ohio State and 2 others at Florida. This issue this past week is an "enough is enough" situation and not something you can analyze in a vacuum.

NOTE: I am someone who thinks we need to see Sumlin coach this coming fall, but I am someone who has major concerns about him as our head coach and I think that there is a legitimate chance this will be his last season.

Here is the disconnect...

slwdsm believes our expectations are "unrealistic."

slwdsm has wrongly characterized our expectations as "win the national title every year", but nevertheless, we're about to be in for a steady dose of "Sumlin has the best record since Slocum" from slwdsm...

...so he's not going to accept that comparisons to Urban Meyer are ridiculous cause despite Meyer's mess-ups, Meyer is running one of the most successful college football programs in the nation.

Another disconnect...

slwdsm has also wrongly characterized a lot of our criticisms as calling for Moorehead to be fired and for Sumlin to be fired.

In what delusional world has Sumlin failed to meet expectations in 3 of his 4 season... Maybe the problem is that you idiots have unrealistic expectations. We've often been picked to finish dead last in our division by many reputable pundits, and it hasn't happened once.

Do you seriously feel entitled to winning bcs bowl games the second Sumlin landed in college station? And why are you entitled to a better offense despite it being a SEC record offense 2+ years that he's been here?

We lost two highly lauded QBs that hadn't actually produced crap on the field... so what? We lost a recruit, who like the entitled QBs before him was infatuated with a coordinator that simply wasn't getting it done.... and despite all of that, we are likely BETTER OFF going into this season with Trevor knight an Mazzone.... BECAUSE OF SUMLIN.

You're so he'll bent on focusing on negative things that you've turned a bunch of mole hills into mountains... likewise, every good thing sumlin has accomplished, you've some how managed to trivialize and discredit...

...get a grip man.

And there it is...

Its not unrealistic to expect A&M to finish better than last. Its not. Sorry, kid, but its not.

I had this same conversation with folks in the off-season about the softball program...that were saying the softball team was meeting/exceeding the pundits expectations that we'd finish near the bottom of the SEC in softball.

The pundits aren't picking A&M to finish last because A&M just doesn't have the resources to have any business in not finishing last in the SEC...

They're picking A&M to finish last because A&M's rotates through failed quarterbacks, is firing coaches, etc.

They're picking A&M to finish last because they don't have the confidence in A&M's coaching staff to put a team out there that is better than last place.

I am glad that Sumlin has not finished in last place, but with the resources he's given, avoiding last place can not be our standard for our coaches.

Stop and ask yourself why the pundits were picking Sumlin's football team to finish last 3 and 4 years into Sumlin's tenure as head coach.

Its not because Sumlin was handed a bunch of crap and had a rough start to his career here. They did it because they apparently had no expectation of the players and coaches that Sumlin had recruited and hired.

Maybe A&M is better off this season after the players and coaches that SUMLIN RECRUITED and SUMLIN HIRED have transferred or been fired.

Since 2011 doesn't understand why I think you have ridiculous expectations (not him for that matter)... let's break this single post down.

quote:
No one is saying because of this, and this alone the last few days Sumlin should go. It's the cumulative situation.

here you essentially say sumlin should be fired.... let's get to that cumulative list.

quote:

It's the fact he has finished significantly below expectations on the field 3 years in a row.
which 3 years were that? Because outside of Johnny's second season, we have often been picked to battle it out for the cellar.

quote:
It's that he had not one, but two kids who were given the starting QB position here and decided to transfer. It would be bizarre for one kid to be given the starting QB position at a school of a&m's caliber and decide to transfer. 2 is a massive red flag.
he also canned Spav (which likely led to the Allen transfer) ... also, both players and their coach have proven to be pretty useless.

... despite that, we are moving on with upgrades @ qb and OC... hmm... who pulled that off? Certainly can't give credit to sumlin.

quote:
It's that he was given lightning in a bottle with the greatest player in a&m's history and wasn't even able to win a BCS bowl with him here.
expectation of a BCS bowl win in his first year or two here, something we had never done... but he did win a blowout cotton bowl and finish in the top 5... trivial accomplishments I suppose.

quote:
It's the fact that he was given one of the best offensive lines in college football history when he arrived here, and in 2 years he let our oline slide dramatically with Ifedi (who was originally a recruit of the previous staff) being selected entirely on talent and as scouts have said he knew no technique.
I agree the OL has been going down hill and flat out terrible last year.... but what did sumlin do? He went out and hired the coach who originally out together that incredible OL he inherited.

quote:
It's that he is an offensive coach and we had a terrible offense last year.
he also had record setting offense in 2+ years... trivial and irrelevant I suppose?

quote:
No one thinks Sumlin should be let go because of this incident. People think he should let go because this is just part of EVERYTHING ELSE he's done or failed to do.
Yea all those things he's done like exceeding expectations, and leading us into an era where we have idiots that think they are entitled to something very few teams accomplish.

quote:

I never claimed to analyze it in a vacuum... I have no problem bringing up all of the things sumlin has and hasn't done.... you're the one that has problems understanding the facts.

Again, the pundits picking A&M last was pretty much a no confidence vote in Sumlin. Its not much of a compliment to say you beat out a last place prediction.

You can't keep ignoring that argument, man.

But for what its worth:

In 2014 we were a game out of last place after squeeking out a come back win vs the last place team.

In 2015, we tied for 5th with Arkansas. We lost by 16 points to the team that finished last.

Maybe its too kind of you to say Sumlin beat expectations of "battling it out for the cellar", that's exactly what we've done the past two seasons.

I'm pretty much convinced you're a sip troll... either that or an idiot kid that doesn't deserve a response...

Pretty much every pundit has continually lauded sumlin for increasing the talent (mostly on the defensive side of the ball).

So now even if sumlin succeeds this year, it's not because of the staff changes he made ... are you serious? You act like sumlin didn't hire or recruit replacements.... newsflash, Chavis was an upgrade, both turners were huge upgrades, t knight was an upgrade, and a rock would have been an upgrade over Spav.... sumlin is responsible for those too.

Could all of you idiots get it through your thick skulls that Sumlin is responsible for the good AND bad.

The fact that you think you're entitled to have any wins over Alabama is hysterical. You do realize they are pretty much the greatest dynasty of all time right? How many programs have a record better than us during that time span against those foes? 2? 3?

And god no I don't think we should have kept Fran, I'm just saying that canning a coach (Slocum*) because you feel you're entitled to better (Fran) isn't going to guarantee success... in fact, there's a high likelihood that we could regress.

Also the pundits that had a "non confidence vote in sumlin".... it wasn't because of his coaching ability. Infant, those same pundits have often claimed he was one of the best coaches in the league.

What those pundits were looking at is what we had for talent returning and decided that we didn't have enough to do much better than the cellar... and they were for the most part right...It's only YOUR expectations that we FAILED to meet.... everyone else thought we did pretty much what we were expected to do.

Despite all of the mess last season we damn near won 9 games... a feat accomplished rarely for this school (hell when Sherman did it this forum couldn't be happier). We have 3 wins against those 4 teams. We're 3-9.

Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss have a better record than Texas A&M against those 3 teams.

We're only better than Mississippi State (2-10).

LSU only has 2 wins, but they also don't get to play LSU. (2-6). We are the only SEC West team to not beat LSU at least one time.

In the last 4 years, we have beat LSU 0 times

Alabama has beat them 4 times.
Arkansas has beat them 2 times.
Auburn has beat them 1 time.
Mississippi State has beat them 1 time.
Ole Miss has beat them 2 times

(Florida also collected 2 wins vs LSU in the past 4 seasons.)

We have beat Ole Miss 2 times.

Alabama has beat them 2 times.

LSU has beat them 2 times.
