Let's re-visit this thread in about two years......

Stoops.

He's only lost a handful of games the last four years, and will soon win his second national title in four years. Very hard to argue against that.

Stoops hands down. The best coach in college today. And the best college coach since Bear Bryant!

Beau - Just a hunch, but maybe he knows because he lives in OKC.

I still recall the pressbox shots of Mike Stoops, then DC at KSU, frustrated and dumbfounded by the Aggie offense in the 1998 Big XII Championship Game. High comedy.

Mike wasn't the only one there that day with the dumbfounded look on his face.

Stoops has proven that he is the better coach, recruiting and gameday. He has a great staff behind him too.

Yeah, you see a coach on the side line with a dumb founded look on his face and you know he must be a bad coach. And if you live in OKC you are qualified to judge assistant coaches that work for ou. You guys seriously overrate yourselves.

Bob Stoops is the best coach in college football, except when he is in college station going up against RC Slocum.

Beau - No one said Mike Stoops is a bad coach, just that he's not anywhere close to his brother, particularly when it comes to head coaching material. His temper and lack of poise are well known.

I'd also trust an outside observer that has access to the full media coverage the Sooners get in OKC, not to mention the thoughts and opinions of countless Sooner fans, over someone that worships the program and has the blinders of team loyalty.

Absolutely, I would take Stoops. The most amazing piece of coaching he did was already mentioned. He took Blake's recruits and had several of them change positions, which suited his scheme better, and made them champions. He recognizes talent and puts each player in the best position for them to succeed. Fran may be good, but I have not seen the same kind of "magic" fom him.

Coach Fran: a good guy who represents Texas A&M well wherever he goes
Stoops: a cocky @$$hole

I'd rather have Fran representing my school.

I would think that on any poll other than one on an Aggie board that the vote would be about 1000:1 in favor of Stoops.

Stoops...not even close. I like Fran and am glad we have him, but Stoops is the best coach in college football.

I really can't believe this is a serious conversation. Fran isn't looking like he is even in the top 3 of the b12 south right now. What gives you the idea that he compares to the best coach in the country?

What is hard to believe? A majority of Ags are picking Stoops but haven't given up on Fran.

Until Fran puts a MNC ring on then Stoops holds the upper hand. Hopefully DF will be able to overcome that.

Mudboy, Fran wasn't pursued across the country from the SEC being offered the #3 highest paying job because he was your average, run of the mill coach.

Stoops is a Coach and very worthy of being labeled the best active coach in College football, but he's not an Untouchable beneath comparison to his colleagues.

Westlaker, read the article by Rick Reilly in the latest Sports Illustrated about Bob Stoops and see if you still think he's a "cocky *******". Actually he's pretty much the opposite. What you might call cockiness is to me just supreme confidence......a great trait to have and be able to impart to your team as well as he does. That being said, I'm delighted we have Fran and am willing to give him plenty of time to turn this ship around.

thanks for getting my back while I was at work doug.

Yeah, I see LOTS of Sooner press considering I live about 10 miles from their Stadium and unfortunately you have to take the "Sooner Rd" exit to get to my house, something I'm not proud of.

So, yes I see a LOT of interaction between Mike Stoops and the press and it is not good. Even several of my Sooner friends admit that.

I'm not saying he's not a decent coach, but if he were THAT great, he wouldn't be the Co-Coordinator.

Here's a link to the Rick Reily article on Stoops. I am proud to have him representing OU football.

"Yes, we feel a gamble may be necessary at key points in the season. We do not focus on what would happen if it does not work. I do not coach with the fear of being criticized. Prefer to do what is necessary to win, based on what I feel is the best choice at the time. Do not coach in fear, ever."

I met Bob Stoops at a Bear Bryant Coach of the Year dinner a few years ago. He was accompanied by his groupies of assistant coaches. I don't care how he comes off in front of a camera or while talking to a sports writer. He's an arrogant jerk who got what was coming to him at Kyle last year. I have no doubt that he is one of the best coaches in the country. I can't wait until Fran cuts off his ties to Texas high schools and we see just how he does with just Oklahoma talent.

BTHOOU!

Not only will it not happen, it has never happened although the recruiting of Texas kids was down during the time of Stoops' predecessor. Which is why I wonder why everyone says that there was great talent waiting for Stoops when he took over.

It's really a non issue at this point in time. Coach Fran has only been in Aggieland for what, 11 months now. And beyond that, where has he stayed long enough to be able to compare to anyone. That's not to discount his talent as a HC. I have faith that after he has been with the Ags for at least 3 years we will see what kind of a coaching talent he really is! But to compare him with Stoops, who has been building his program for 5 years is not realistic.
Ags, the theme of the year from the get-go has been patience and trying to make these types of comparisons is really pretty pointless IMO.

PlanoGuy,

"Breakfast" on Sundays when I grew up consisted of the following:

Eggs (scrambled w/ cheese)
Homemade biscuits
Deer sausage
Hashbrowns
Grits

Who needs pork when you have deer sausage?

Thanks, Moses. Maybe I will try this "breakfast" thing.

Staff must have been in a team building exercise that day & missed this. I'm pretty sure I got a perma for saying that God > Fran. No way this Stoops > Fran blasphemy would have stood up.

Just to cover my ass Jimbo > God
