The male leaders can't handle women as yell leaders. They're not mature enough.

At 21 years of age this would have been very important to me and I'd be dead set against it.

At 61 years of age, it really just doesn't matter very much. So sure, why not? In the spring of 1975 the Student Senate voted to allow women to run for yell leader. I know because I voted against it. So if a woman can win, then absolutely. However until the arcane and restrictive campaigning rules are changed to allow off campus campaigning, then it's unlikely to happen.

The last girl who ran for yell leader got an article published in the New York Times. I don't know how much more off campus you can get than that.

You can't campaign at apartment complexes. That sort of one on one (heck carrying around an iPad to get people to vote online) would get the majority of the student body to actually express themselves. Not allowing campaigning at apartment complexes is just a way to perpetuate the male dominated status quo.

Most students are off campus. It takes effort to vote. Most students don't care. If they could be reached where they actually are, it would change all campus elections.

More accessibility. My personal opinion is to make Yell Leader a Corps position just like being in the Band or the RVs. That would end the embarrassment that is 5 for Yell.

Agreed. Lol, though that would actually make it easier for there to be a female "Yell Boy" as the Corps is hell-bent on making sure that there are ample amounts of females in leadership position (whether they deserve it or not).

Agreed about it being a corps position, but I still don't see how more accessibility isn't going to to help the people who have the biggest network to campaign with. Seems like the on campus kind of levels the playing field for the average non reg running. Not to mention that the way the voting system is set up benefits the non reg as well.

I'm SURE she was absolutely the most qualified too. Look at the proportion of male to female in the Corps, and look at the leadership positions. Not close to the same proportions...

Anyone should be eligible. I remember one year when I was in school that there was a big controversy because a significant portion of the band threatened not to vote for one or more of the corps candidates and either back a darkhorse corps candidate or a non-reg. Might have had something to do with the bonfire outhouse fallout.

I'm all for the best person getting the vote, and I can promise you that the best person will not always be a male, or a cadet. Females are over 50% of the undergrads, and it is entirely reasonable for them to be eligible to serve in that position. I'd just ask they have a voice that carries well and doesn't sound like Hillary Clinton doing a stump speech...

If women can serve in combat roles then women should serve in Yell Leader roles.
Based on the demographics, we should have half and half male and female Yell Leaders!

We already changed other traditions with the Swag Movement. Might as well make New Army relevant.

There aren't 50% of women in the corps, where most of the yell leaders are chosen from. Should there be 50% men on the Aggie Dance team?

I'm totally fine with cheerleaders on the side line, I've been saying Yes to this the whole time!

Don't care that much, nor should it matter if only men are ever elected.
