It is pretty clear that there are some psychiatric issues involved here that are compounded by the use of alcohol. and perhaps drugs. One of the problems is that once a person becomes an adult family members gaining enough control to have a person admitted to a facility requires court orders, and those are very difficult in today's atmosphere of patient rights. It often takes an event so serious as to essentially ruin the life of the person you are trying to save.
That is what happened with Thomas Johnson. It was clear from his first disappearance following the TAMU vs. Alabama game that he had a mental disorder, likely schizophrenia, and that major help was needed. But counselors and his mother were unable to navigate the system. Evidently, no mentor stepped in to help. Ultimately, his psychiatric delusions came to a head and he killed the jogger at White Rock Lake. His life is over.
It is truly essential that Johnny's parents take every legal measure to have him committed, involuntarily if necessary, to a psychiatric facility to help him gain control of his life, or his career and life will end tragically.
