I keep reading reports that the Browns are considering drafting a QB with the second pick in the draft. This is a pretty good indicator of why the franchise sucks. Johnny may or may not be the guy they want to be the face of the franchise, but either way, QB should not be their most immediate concern. If they can put together two or three spectacular drafts, sign some free agents at positions where they need help, and get some decent coaching, then maybe they'll be in a position where the QB can be a difference maker. Right now, their entire roster is so bad that even Tom Brady couldn't put them into the positive win column. If they really want to build, they should go another year with the QB's they have (including Johnny) and use the draft to build the rest of the team. When Johnny's contract is up, if they want to let him go, they should let him go. But letting him go now and then using their first pick on a QB just delays the rebuilding of their entire roster that is going to be necessary for any QB to succeed.
Yes, if somehow Johnny could get out of Cleveland and end up on a good team, that would be great. There is no doubt that he has a better chance for success if he is anywhere but Cleveland. But there is also no doubt that Cleveland will continue to fail spectacularly if they believe that another QB is all they need in order to reach the promised land.
