I do think Sumlin is a good recruiter. The sales job has just become much, much tougher...

-Bad results on the field
-Weird internal turmoil with the QB situation
-A high probability he won't even be the recruits coach if we get similar results on the field as the last 2 years

The sales job was much easier 2 years ago.

As long as they don't lift him up on the 5th win of the year . I think he will be fine amirite # believe.

Bad results on the field? No less than 8 wins since he has been here. Chobbitt has yet to have a winning season and all the press think his class will come in top 10.

Shocker ... a kid from North Carolina commits to a school in NC. I guess Saban, Mora, and Stoops are also bad recruiters as they also offered. Sumlin was one of the non east coast schools to get a serious look.

One of these years we are going to pull some blue chips from out of state at a high level

Guess this ain't that year

Until we use the tight ends on campus, I'm not worried about a te or two decommitting or not getting a highly touted te to commit.

Use them and they will come.

A high level being like 6 or 7, not 2...

Have we ever had 1/3 to 1/2 of our class from OOS? No, and you won't see it because there are enough great players in TX and you don't want to alienate the TX HS coaches... like for instance recruiting a "fab 5" from Florida. I like our strategy to pick some of the best out of AZ, La, TN, and now NV to complement the blue chips from TX.

Sippie kid flipped to Stanford, so they had at least one smart commit.

Seriously, I don't see how any kid could turn down Stanford. Congratulations to him.

Good we have a 4 star TE from last years class who will get some touches in Mazzone's system.

Then why do we offer so many guys OOS?

Are you really telling me if we could get the top 7 players in LSUs class not already from TX we would turn them down to not "alienate" HS coaches?

All of the top programs get the best of the best regardless of where they are from.

If we are not right now trying to do this it is time to start... And then ...

The % of OOS offers may not be as high as you think. Plus your hit rate would will not be as high, i.e. Thad Moss staying close to home.

There are 4 or 5 major recruiting hotbeds in the country- OH/PA, Fl, Ca, Deep South, and TX. If you could make 3-4 trips to see a kid in Beaumont vs. 1 trip to Cali or 1 trip to Orlando, which makes more sense if the prospects are equal in value? We have one of the most enviable locations in the country.. being close to Houston, E Texas, and Louisiana. Dallas Ft Worth is only 3-4 hours by car up I 45.

I'm not saying all of this isn't true, but I still think one of these years we get 6-7 of these "home runs"

ONE year. Number 1 recruiting class. 6-7 OOS blue chips and combined with 18-19 Texas boys.

This is not too hard to envision.

Prooblem is, Sumlin is not recruiting well in Texas.

Of the Top 30, we have commitments from only two.

Rest of SEC has seven!!!
AL - 3
LSU - 3
MS - 1

Baylor has 4
TCU -2
sips - 2

Compared to the Big 12 and the other SEC schools, we suck in recruiting Texas. We have to recruit OOS players.

Anyone with a brain knew that joining SEC was going to be volatile to recruiting. Yes it's a plus that we play in SEC. But it also makes the other SEC schools have a better inroad into the state.
Most years it's going to be a wash on what we gain compared to what we lose.
Just have to hope for a good year.
One we probably won't get until Sumlin is gone.
Here's to 2017!

Yeah, could have stayed in the BDF and struggle for a top fifty finish instead of top ten.

That's the ticket.

This is just dumb. Yes, this year hasn't been as good in state as previous years.

The plan is to always offer top OOS talent, get as many top in state and try and cherry pick La and a few west coast kids.

What were you saying about Sumlin in previous years? One bad year is not the norm. Learn some perspective.

Exactly, just imagine what recruiting would be like if we weren't able to sell what we can today.

7-9 over the last 2 years in conference play. We wanted to move to the SEC. How a coach does in conference play defines him.

Would you like to bet on whether Sumlin will be here this time next year after another year of 4-4 or worse in SEC play?

That's the point of my initial post that prompted the back and forth.

4-4 in conference play with a win over ucla a bowl win and a top 15 class sumlin then gets one more year
so there is more to considrf than conference record

I think it is much more likely strong gets fired at 7-5 than Sumlin. The whorns are ready to fire him once he loses four games again (which will happen by Nov.).

I don't see how Sumlin can regain control or respect of this team, we're a joke around the SEC.
