Sumlin is a hell of a recruiter though.

I do think Sumlin is a good recruiter. The sales job has just become much, much tougher...
-Bad results on the field
-Weird internal turmoil with the QB situation
-A high probability he won't even be the recruits coach if we get similar results on the field as the last 2 years
The sales job was much easier 2 years ago.
quote:Bad results on the field? No less than 8 wins since he has been here. Chobbitt has yet to have a winning season and all the press think his class will come in top 10.

quote:Shocker ... a kid from North Carolina commits to a school in NC. I guess Saban, Mora, and Stoops are also bad recruiters as they also offered. Sumlin was one of the non east coast schools to get a serious look.

quote:You mean guys like Dodson and Okeke from Tenn?
One of these years we are going to pull some blue chips from out of state at a high level
Guess this ain't that year

quote:Have we ever had 1/3 to 1/2 of our class from OOS? No, and you won't see it because there are enough great players in TX and you don't want to alienate the TX HS coaches... like for instance recruiting a "fab 5" from Florida. I like our strategy to pick some of the best out of AZ, La, TN, and now NV to complement the blue chips from TX.quote:quote:You mean guys like Dodson and Okeke from Tenn?

A high level being like 6 or 7, not 2...

The % of OOS offers may not be as high as you think. Plus your hit rate would will not be as high, i.e. Thad Moss staying close to home.
There are 4 or 5 major recruiting hotbeds in the country- OH/PA, Fl, Ca, Deep South, and TX. If you could make 3-4 trips to see a kid in Beaumont vs. 1 trip to Cali or 1 trip to Orlando, which makes more sense if the prospects are equal in value? We have one of the most enviable locations in the country.. being close to Houston, E Texas, and Louisiana. Dallas Ft Worth is only 3-4 hours by car up I 45.

Prooblem is, Sumlin is not recruiting well in Texas.
Of the Top 30, we have commitments from only two.
Rest of SEC has seven!!!
AL - 3
LSU - 3
MS - 1
Baylor has 4
TCU -2
sips - 2
Compared to the Big 12 and the other SEC schools, we suck in recruiting Texas. We have to recruit OOS players.

Yeah, could have stayed in the BDF and struggle for a top fifty finish instead of top ten.
That's the ticket.
quote:7-9 over the last 2 years in conference play. We wanted to move to the SEC. How a coach does in conference play defines him.

Would you like to bet on whether Sumlin will be here this time next year after another year of 4-4 or worse in SEC play?
That's the point of my initial post that prompted the back and forth.
quote:I don't see how Sumlin can regain control or respect of this team, we're a joke around the SEC.
