This is 10000% correct. Not saying there's someone better than Sumlin who could recruit like that for us, but he won't get it done against a school like LSU who has their pick of EVERYONE in the state or against BAMA who has the Saban natties and wins most battles against their in-state competition.

Orgeron would be a tough pull to get out of Baton Rouge. Money alone wouldn't do it, I think. He gets paid pretty damn well for not being a coordinator. Maybe if there were a personality clash with Aranda, he might consider a move. Orgeron's a D-line coach.

I prefer Chavis as DC, though.

Ogeron is most overrated coach/recruiter in football. He's good, but Les Miles deserves the credit for recruiting the vast majority of that class

Actually, LSU has tons of money in the Athletic Department. By state law LSU can't use any state funds for athletics. The LSU Athletic Department is 100% funded by donations, ticket sales, concessions, novelties, SEC and TV/broadcast revenue. LSU also has quite a few donors who are very wealthy (Pennington, Turner, Bernhard to name a few) and they have no problem raising money to buy out Miles or anyone else. The problem was the way this was being done was simply a backroom deal with no search and a few donors picking a coach. That is the system that gave LSU Curley Hallman and Gerry Dinardo. LSU moved away from that BS when Saban was hired and Joe Dean was forced out as AD. Cooler heads prevailed in the Miles situationand the coup was put down.

It would be interesting to compare how much money is '"really" spent by the athletic departments in the SEC West on football.

But, I guess those actual figures are 'state secrets'.
