Texas A&M to hire Washington AD Scott Woodward to same position

As first reported by Chip Brown and confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci, Scott Woodward, the athletic director at the University of Washington since 2008, will be hired for the same position at Texas A&M.

Woodward, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in political science from LSU, has a strong background in fundraising and academics and has made successful coaching hires.

He fired Tyrone Willingham as Washington’s head football coach after a 0-12 finish in 2008 and hired Steve Sarkisian.

Sarkisian was 35-29 in five years at Washington and led the Huskies to a 9-4 finish and a victory over BYU in the Fight Hunger Bowl in 2013. He took the Huskies to four consecutive bowl games and in 2010 ended a streak of eight seasons without a postseason appearance.

When Sarkisian then left for USC, Woodward hired Chris Petersen from Boise State.

During his regime of supervising Washington’s $65 million athletic department, Woodward led a drive for a $285 million renovation of Husky Stadium.

Under Woodward’s guidance, Washington last year was ranked second in the Pac-12 in athlete graduation rates.

Before taking over as athletic director, Woodard held the position of Washington’s Vice President of External Affairs. In that role he oversaw the offices of federal relations, state relations and media relations, among others.

Prior to going to Washington, Woodward was the Director of External Affairs at LSU from 2000-2004. He acted as an advisor to then-LSU Chancellor Mark Emmert, who is now president of the NCAA.

Woodward was Emmert’s representative to LSU’s athletic department. During that span LSU won 10 national championships, including the 2003 football national title.
