Why would he?

He's a good coach already, has established a good program at TCU, is getting good recruits, and is in an easier conference than the SEC, which gives him an easier path to the playoffs.

What would be the benefit from his standpoint to leave TCU?

I'm not a fan of TCU's... And it was half in jest. I'm so checked out following last night.

NO !!
Already been " talked to". He has a perfect job in Ft Worth. Lifetime job, greatest coach in TCU's modern history. WELL paid. Easy conference. Small and passive fan base that will NEVER pressure him.
Why the hell would he leave !

He will never leave TCU. However you could steal their assistants fairly easily.

Because the natural history of these types of jobs is you move up to a bigger, shinier place with louder fans and more $$.

Cumbie would be the one I would go after. You would lose spav and most likely Martel but you would prob be better off in the long run.

If I were Sumlin, Sonny Cumbie and Tony Perterson would be on the top of my list to replace Spav.

patterson ain't going anywhere but you could easily pick off cumbie for our new OC

I've been saying for a while now that Cumbie would be my choice for OC

Question is, do we try to retain Spav in some way? Like as QB coach or something? Do we even want him? Apparently he CAN recruit

For 99% of coaches YES!! But Patterson is not the usual EGO MANIAC that damn near all the other coaches are. He is damn smart and knows he has the best gig around.

Justin Fuente is a former TCU assistant. He can beat Ole Miss at least.

Cumbie is not even the playcaller. Pretty big risk, right?

I really don't know what to do about Spav. When Sumlin demoted McKinney he obviously kept him on and at the same salary, more than his new "boss" as OC. That never sits well with me as it creates some resentment more often than not, and blurs the chain of command.

That being said, Spav as a recruiter, does have value to the program. But with the number of coaches being capped by NCAA rules, I'm not sure there's enough room to keep him on. And definitely not when Sumlin hires a new OC after this season.

Unless Spav wants to be Sumlin's pool guy. j/k.

Could we trade him for A&M's coach (whoever he is)?

Patterson has a shiny new stadium, he is well paid, he has some wealthy oil guys who have him in a partnership that if he stays a certain amount of time he will receive a huge check, has pretty low expectations to meet, plays in a weeeeak conference that can easily be won. I'm betting he us pressure comfortable

If you don't know his name without googling it.. Quit posting.
He has been one of the better coaches in college football for over a decade.

TCU sucked while Boykin was out. They will suck again when he is gone.

Hey, Kenny Hill may work out for you guys. However, he is no Boykin. I have no doubt Hill will perform better under Sonny than he did as a freshman under Spav.
