Notes from Billy's breakdown

  • Some bring up the point of Garrett's sacks dipping during SEC play, but he still affected the game even if the sack totals weren't there. Not to mention that once in SEC play, the officials let the opposing offensive lineman tackle and hold him on the edge.

  • Was the best pass rusher in the conference in 2014 as a true freshman. Shattered Jadaveon Clowney's freshman sack record even though he missed an entire game against Missouri and played with a cast on his hand in others.

  • One of the hardest workers on the team along with being the most talented player on the A&M roster. If he's not a number one overall pick in the NFL Draft, he's a future top-five pick. Should be the closest thing there is to being completely unblockable this season.

  • Hopes to see improvement in his game against the run, even though he wasn't bad against the run last season. Has added weight and is incredibly strong.

  • Isn't unrealistic at all to think of Garrett as a 15 or 16 sack guy this season that could lead the country. Is as good of a defender that has come through A&M since guys like Sam Adams and Brandon Mitchell.

  • If Garrett can get to the point, and he should be there from a physical perspective, where he can be described as relentless then he will have the ability to change games each and every Saturday.

Notes from Andy Staples' thoughts on Garrett

  • The better Garrett plays, the more blatant the holding will be and the easier it will be to call. With speed like his, he's going to get held every play. You can't block a guy like that, legally, unless you're a first round pick yourself.

  • If you're an NFL scout or GM, you want to see Garrett go up against Laramy Tunsil and Cam Robinson so you can truly get a feel for what you're dealing with.

So exciting. I feel like he is separated to a class above Clowney in a sense that he would never "protect his draft stock" by sitting out. He is a team invested player. He is an intelligent and straight laced guy that deserves every million he gets next year. Can't wait! He is filling a Von Miller sized hole in my heart! Haha
