Re: The Circle

Having just been to Phoenix, AZ, I can say that there are a number of places that use "circles" (i.e. roundabouts, rotaries, etc.).

If used regularly, they are actually very efficient. No need to stop every time, able to maintain speed through an intersection, etc.

That being said, if there is one "rotary" intersection in the entire county, that presents a problem because the drivers in the area aren't good at using it. In North Phoenix there are a few of them so those in the area become "rotary experts".

Just my $0.02.

Actually, roundabouts are OK only if you are familiar with them. I was down in Aruba and they are commonly used there and everyone seemed happy.

Anyway, I'm not knocking roundabouts at all. Baylor people actually call this thing "The Circle". I even think it has a damn marker in the middle of it saying so (could be wrong, but I am almost positive something was there). The place that people keep telling me to eat at has a sort of '50's diner feel to it.

There's Health Camp and The Circle restaurant. You're probably thinking of The Circle.

You're right, some call them circles, rotaries, and roundabouts. In Phoenix (and other areas that have them in the states), they do use the term "circle" more than roundabouts or rotaries. Roundabout is the term used in the UK (and likely other places as well).

As far as the law school goes, it is very respected... usually > 90% bar pass rate...and if you want to go into litigation, you get tons of actual "trial" experience through their program. However, being a law student, I attempt to separate myself from the rest of the university.
As far as "because it is baylor" being a weak argument...it may be on its face. However, I don't like lsu b/c they are lsu. I don't like smu b/c it is smu. I don't like ark b/c it is ark. I don't like tt b/c it is tt. I don't like tu b/c it is tu. Point is if its not A&M, I don't like it. There is a lot of rivalry and hatred that goes back to the good ol' SWC. Its easy for me to stand on that reasoning. If someone thinks I should have more of reason than what I have expressed, I am sorry. Fact is I don't like the university if it is not A&M. I'm sure there are plenty who disagree and plenty more who will share my reasoning.
Also, its been a long day reading all this legal bs and frankly, I don't feel like laying out a very good argument for disliking baylor.

THIRD AGGIE: the circle is a place in waco where just about every single road that comes into waco meets and there is no method to the madness in regards to how to turn off of one road and on another...confuses the hell out of me every time I get to it.

My old manhas some funny stories involving Health Camp from roadies to Waco during his college days...That place is old.

My problem definitely has to be the image they try to portray but consistently fail to uphold. Come to find out they're knifing their family to death, killing teammates, skinning cats, and harboring as many gays as tu.
Oh yeah, and it's in a ghetto where people get shot on a random basis.
Oh, and it's full of candy-ass frat guys.

Thanks for all the "circle" replies.

I'd say the culture there is definitely different from A&M's, but you can't assume that they're all stupid because someone killed cats (although this is a real weird one.)

If you're going to make generalizations like that, people who went to other schools the same time as me would say that A&M students were involved in tragic events so often that the university wasn't safe (seriously, though, there were so many in such a short period of time while I was an undergrad that neighboring schools probably wondered what the hell was going on).

Don't forget an Aggie Corps member was killed in brawl in Waco many moons ago. Corps trip to Wacko was only recently reinstated.

If only the train would have made it.

You hate them because of ghettos? What do you have against poor people?
Who would provide the services tha you need from the service industry if not for them?

When I was in school the Northgate neighborhood was nothing to write home about, it still isn’t. The only difference is that you now have to go 2 blocks N of Univ Dr instead of just one to reach the ghetto.

Should we all email Fran and demand that he only recruit in upper class neighborhoods?

I’m glad to see the Baylor pot finally getting stirred a bit. I have to agrue their side since they don’t seem to care enough to argue it themselves. I guess that’s why I hate them.
Aggietom

TGCGT,

Is your name a genetic code?

Anyway, the northgate block is about as ghetto as Plano. It is just cheap housing with suburban white kids living in it until they graduate and go become engineers and move to Sugar Land.

fourth deck
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The purpose of ridiculing their ghetto is that it's dangerous. If anyone has a problem with poor people, it's the Baylor students that live in the ghetto in brand new condominiums that also drive $30,000 cars right out of high school.
I happen to live in the luxurious section of College Station known as Northgate. While a lot of people that live here are obviously on a college income, I can walk around at night without fear of being shot or robbed.
Davy_Crockett
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Aggietom-

Yeah, you're right. There's no cheap housing in the ghetto.

I'm not going to get into the whole "white" thing but you might want to look a little closer next time you're in the area.

My name is a mysterious code only to those who know nothing about football or who take the O-Line for granted.

I'm a Baylor student and can say with 100% confidence that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world. Each school has its own culture - I chose BU because if the way we do things around here...same reasons you guys all picked A&M. You can rag on us for being a bunch of snotty girls and pretty boys, but we can make fun of you for being a bunch of sheep-loving, bonfire-building farmers. Both assumptions are equally accurate (or inaccurate as the case may be). You should think twice about dragging us through the mud for the things that have gone on here recently...I seem to remember an Aggie tragedy that made national news not all that long ago - something about a bonfire...

Truth be told, I think you'd find that many Aggies and Bears are a lot alike...it's just too bad you guys make such a career of hating anyone who doesn't wear maroon. I was in College Station for the A&M/BU game a couple years ago and I swore I would never go back - it's the most annoying place on earth, but I admire your sprit! So all that to say, good luck on Saturday - hope it's a great game...we're proud of our coaches and are confident in our players - here's to a renewed Baylor/A&M rivalry!

I would say that the Baylor stereotype is more accurate than the A&M one... Probably 85% of our students come from big cities wit the other 15% being from out of state or rural kids. This school is anything but country anymore. You guys still hang onto the we're rich and better than you style...

Now, if you want to compare cities, then we'll blow you out of the water in pretty much any category... Bars, restaurants, name it!!

In '22, the Twelfth Man originated. On January 1 in Dallas during a New Year's Day game with Center College, a man from the stands went in as a substitute for the Aggie gridsters. That same your brought about tragedy on a corps trip. It was the Baylor trip, and oldtimers still claim it was the rowdiest in the history of the College. But rowdiness was not enough. It became a mob battle - students fighting with boards and clubs. As a result, an Aggie was killed. According to a local merchant who recalls the tragic, the cadet corps started en masse on its way toward Baylor after the student's death. The state militia was called out to stop impending disaster

R U NUTZ...BAYLOR/A&M Rivalry...in a Rivalry teams have to be pretty much equal in wins against each other...A&M Dominates this match up...go back and look at the history...its a shame Mike Singletary went to that school...it would have been greatness to see that guy anchor the aggie defense in the late 70's

The schools did not even play each other for several years because of the risk of another outbreak. Series resumed while dad was in school.

On your first post you take a stab at bonfire, you wish you had something half as neat.
Instead the institution that's perfect for you is one that has no camraderie, lame spirit at best, and is divided by frats and sororities. Hell no aggies and bears are a lot alike.

oh aggies,
Ya'll are so silly. Why the inferiority complex? You must be nervous we might upset you this weekend.
Your dislike of our circle once again proves an aggies' "lack of intelligence" stereotype. I have seen drivers-ed students have no problem with it their first time around.
Oh well, may the best team win this weekend!

I think this is hilarious.

I spent 10 years of my life preparing to go to Texas A&M. I have three dresser drawers full of A&M jerseys and sweatshirts to prove it. My best friends went here and my best friend was on top of the bonfire when it fell.

The February of my senior year, I chose to attend Baylor University. I knew it was a private school, and that it's mechanical engineering school ranked 5 places ahead of A&M according to US News. Of course, the professor that convinced me to come left for A&M the following semester...

BUT, I think the people who come on here and talk about the rich, pretty boys and snotty girls at Baylor have only been to Waco or Baylor once or twice.

With one exception, none of my friends are from wealthy families. None of my friends drive fancy cars. I drive a 10-year old Chevy Diesel pickup. The one guy that's the exception is freakin' royalty, so I don't think he counts as "typical Baylor student". I interned with a couple of Aggies from Southlake this summer. They reminded me of Baylor frat guys. Not that it's bad, just not my cup of tea.

As for ghetto, my girlfriend lives just inside Bryan, and that's just as bad as the area around Baylor. Just 'cause you have a lot of fields around your ghetto, doesn't mean it ain't there.

My point is, you can rationalize and pick and choose things that support your argument, but it doesn't change the fact that your incredible generalizations are just that. Stereotypes. BaylorGirl had it right. Saying everyone at Baylor is a super-rich pretty boy is like saying everyone at A&M is a farmer who enjoys the company of sheep.

My girlfriend attends A&M. More than half the people I grew up with attend A&M. There aren't a whole lot of differences between the people I know at Baylor and the people I know at A&M.

I am a big fan of A&M, and a HUGE fan of Baylor. Loving A&M doesn't mean you have to hate every other school in Texas. You aren't cheating on A&M.

And I guarantee you, there are at least two guys I know that can drink anyone you know under the table. Not I, I don't drink. But the rich guy I mentioned. I guarantee... I've seen him drink 2 liters of vodka, and then host a party.

Anyway, this won't change your mind, but maybe it will give you something to think about. Hate away.

That looks a lot more like a rivalry by your standards. Maybe Tech fans are right....
