You are wrong News outlets reported that Danuel House committed to Texas A&M in late May last year. That deadline, if that's when it comes, gives football players almost three extra months to play the field.

Great post, for basketball forum
You missed the point because the post is not about basketball - it's about football recruiting. The full thread addressed the question of how long a potential player could play the field -- at some point students have to accept offers of acceptance. The House situation illustrates that a football player could extend the time to choose until late May at a minimum -- at least as far as A&M goes.

It seems improbable that a player could just show up on the first day of practice and expect to be admitted, though if the player was good enough and filled an immediate need ...

Brandon Knight did it at UK several years ago. He applied and was admitted to UK and FL. When he was sure Coach Cal was staying and who was going pro, he decided on UK.

While I agree it was good for smith I think it's bad for the system. Think what would happen if Sheffield, Mack, and Jefferson did what Knight had done? A couple schools would have held spots for them and six other kids could potentially lose out on the school they wanted. I would be pissed if I had to go to Baylor because another player had enrolled at A&M and tu and waited till mid summer to choose.

So you're cool with what some schools (eg, Alabama) have done? Over sign to an extreme and then kick out upperclassmen who might have not lived up to their recruiting hype. These kids are then forced to transfer to another school (and hope a decent chunk of their credits transfer) in order to continue attending a school on a football scholarship.

Alabama doesn't over sign to an extreme. And despite what some of the article headlines may have led you to believe, the players that Nick Saban signs all know ahead of time their scholarships are awarded on a year by year basis. All the kids that have transferred indicated as such in their interviews. They also don't yank a kid's scholarship because of injuries. In the case that a player can't overcome his/her injuries, they're placed on a medical hardship so they can continue their education and finish with a degree.

Alabama graduates upper classmen every year that played sparingly and never reallly contributed. They weren't run off or had their scholarships taken. Kids get buried on the depth chart and transfer all the time because they think they should be playing more. Happens to every program and not just Alabama. If they were "being run off or told to transfer" you would hear about it in the news.

Don't kid yourselves old piss is building something. They are sticking up on top tier wr and just landed the QB we wanted very badly, they are building a stout defense as well. if they will be top tier remains to be seen but they are making moves.
