Will our rushing attack be our Downfall?

Offensive success often translates to Defensive success. We were 125th in the nation in Time of Possession this year. Even Chavis will find it difficult to produce a quality defense if they are on the field 70% of the time. Even though LSU was by no means a juggernaut they usually stayed on the field long enough with their running game (they were 9th in time of possession this year).

We just lost our most valuable (IMO) running back to the NFL and are left with two guys (TC and BW) who averaged 2.4 less yards per carry than Trey Williams this past season. Even with potential studs like Kirk and Lodge added to the fold offensively, it will be hard to have much more offensive success without a more successful running game.

Can our returning or freshmen RB's improve enough? And can our O-Line improve enough with the help of a new position coach?

I'm excited to see James White get more touches this season.
He looked promising when he had several series to himself early in the year.

The most well rounded RB we have on the team. Has the size and skill set to do it all

Our rushing attack is not the problem, it is when and how we use it.

Our backs get a good YPC average and when we run, we can be pretty effective.

Christensen's smash mouth run from the spread plan is solid. His backs put up big numbers. Things are changing.

Get your popcorn ready.

TOP IS IRRELEVANT IN MODERN FOOTBALL.

Number of plays and long drives are what matter from an possession standpoint. Who care if you average higher TOP if your offense sucks?

If it TOP matters so much wouldn't our team reflect the 125th number?

I'm inclined to believe this. Sumlin, being a hands-off HC during the game, brings in Christensen as a counter-point to Spav. Addressing a weakness in Spav's tendencies. Not really big knock on Spav, as much as a recognition that he is young and still learning.

OCs don't become great overnight. As much as I dislike Malzahn, I have to give him credit for evolving his offense into the well-rounded, multiple weaponed force it is today. Not close to the offense he started with at Arkansas, when he was overly pass-happy and mindless of the clock.

Kiffin is another great offensive mind, yet he still hasn't quite gotten the game management portion of the game down yet. Big reason why his tenure at USC was so poor. Saban will help him immensely in that aspect.

Sure hope so. Because that screen game doesn't work without a real inside running game. Otherwise these teams will keep jumping the short passing game that makes Sumlin's offense go.

Well, winning really just comes down to points, ya see. So, if the offense scores a lot, and the defense lets the other team score a lot but less than the offense, they're still successful. It's only when they let the other team score more than our offense that they're unsuccessful.
