Apparently they found it in the collapsed West side on a bench, but it was never seen because nobody stands up.

How in the world did it survive the blast, collapse, and all the heavy equipment?

Well, that article was pretty useless. It only says the painting has been recovered. It does not give any details on where or how.

The article doesn't say where or how it was found, just that it was recovered by UPD. Odd.

No, that was just a terribly written article.

College Station artist Marie Haines painted the piece, which was presented on November 24, 1943, about a month-and-a-half before Reveille I died. The dog was accidentally hit by cadets returning to campus from Navasota in 1931, brought back to campus and kept by the Corps' cadets until her death.
Well that is pretty terribly written.

For real. They should go to the pound and get a mutt rescue dog.

Mutts are better anyway because they tend not to suffer from all the genetic issues that 'pure breeds' have had bred into them.

Yet to understand why they don't just get a rescue dog instead of spending $$ searching for a collie.

Knoxian quality work there. Not close to clucky's level, though.

I miss my dumb lovable dog from when I was in high school. He was the best. He was a mix of just about everything that ran the streets.

I know how it was found and where it was.

I wasn't sure whether or not to believe the story, the fact that it has now shown up and UPD is quiet about how confirms that the story was true.

Good Job RB I hope you had a safe trip home.

Not a biology major were you. I don't "spill".

On January 3rd I was in College Station and saw a friend in the Chicken whom I hadn't seen since about 1989. Talking to him I discovered that he was in town to return an item he had found next to a dumpster outside the trigon (which was being refurbished). He had had it since and only recently learned that it was a long lost treasured art piece. He was in town to meet with UPD and return the painting.

I've kept it vague on purpose. I thought it was a cool story.

I heard the painting was stolen in 1944 by the Nazis and was displayed in the personal hunting lodge of Herman Goering in far east Poland. After the war it traveled into the hands of a Swedish art collector who had it appraised. After that, it was shipped back to A&M and arrived postage due. The painting has remained hidden and crated in the steam tunnels until recently discovered. That's what I heard at least.
