When McIlwain hired a new DC, he effectively fired Durkin
Supposedly Saban is fed up with media scrutiny and the stress associated with being the head coach. He has some health issues and been advised to lower his stress level. He and Sumlin have reached a tentative agreement where Saban will just coach the defense, but get paid $$2 mil per year, plus 1/2 of Sumlins salary, and $5 mil bonus for each natty. Waiting till Bama is eliminated from playoffs to announce it.

Doesn't seem that far-fetched. When all these media guys are talking about a big splash hire still in the works, they would call Durkin just that if he ended up being hired.
