What would be the claim to fame that would be the reasoning for hiring him? Is he an up-and-coming defensive guru, or does he have the history of building wrecking defenses? Just wondering what would be the headline if he gets hired.

The headline will be that he's innovative.

We would have saved a lot of face by just settling for Gibbs at the outset and making it public. When you can't even get a coordinator to show serious interest, you start losing recruits and losing momentum. Nothing good whatsoever came out of this.

Gibbs could have been hired weeks ago. So he's interim and is going to coach the bowl game. Several coordinators have accepted other jobs, but are still coaching in the bowl games.

Doubt it will be Gibbs.

I would say that it's because

1.) Sumlin's offense scares off DCs because of the lack of rest it could mean for the defense.

2.) Lack of prestige at the school. There's a reason why the good DCs are at Auburn, Bama, and LSU.

It sucks writing that but that's really how it is. We should have just won a NC when Johnny was here.

LSU wasn't that great until the last 10-15 years. They were HORRIBLE in the 90s. I went to a game with a girl I was seeing (in 99 I think) when they were beaten by freaking UH at home. Neither LSU nor Auburn could go toe to toe with A&M money-wise either.

I definitely agree, but we're focused on what programs are doing now. That's what most DCs are focused on too. Auburn is going to be in NC talks next year, as LSU and Bama are too. I don't think we will be.

So why doesn't Miles' offense scare off DCs? A DC has to know that he can only allow 17 points or less or he loses if he coaches for Miles. Hell, LSU only scored 23 points total in the 3 games combined prior to facing one of the worst DCs in the country (Sny_er). They averaged less than 8 points per game! So if a DC gives up more than one TD, he loses! Show me where Sumlin's offense has put up less then 23 points in a 3 game stretch at A&M. Only once in his 3 years here has his team ever scored less than 72 points during a 3 game stretch (we scored 41). So a DC pretty much knows if he holds the opponent to 20 or less he wins.

Seriously? Some of you need to stop typing and run as fast as you can to your nearest Target or WalMart and get some pacifiers for your own personal use.

If you want to talk about not liking Sumlin, or having philosophical differences, or not wanting the position because of lack of control - then fine. But the whole 'prestige' argument is just a whiny stupid position.

Some people are such morons when they talk about stuff like this. We were the first university EVERY to offer a coach $1 Million dollars. And yes, national-champion Coach Jackie Sherrill came to TAMU.

We even stole Alabama's coach to come to TAMU. Even though Fran ended up sucking, that was as big a coups as there was in the coaching world during that time.

Gibbs will be a good hire for us....he is used to working with 3 star players & lower....he wouldn't know what to do with a 4 or 5 star player
