Rankings suck..

Teams should not move up when they don't play...

This system drives me nuts, whether we are in it or out of it.

Does this mean they should not move down when they don't play either?

It's been obvious for years. There is alot more parity over the last few years than there was in the past. The rankings system has not changed though.

I think they should just wait until week 5 for an initial ranking...

This year the pollsters look more dumb than usual.

Rankings don't matter! Only Wins and losses!

The fundamental problem is that the poll voters hate to admit they were wrong previously. That is why you still see head scratchers such as t.u. ranked ahead of the Hogs.

In the event of a perceived upset, the response is to correct the loser downward as little as possible while moving the winner upward as little as possible.

so, if a team is ranked 20th and theams 15-19 lose, then the team that is ranked 20th should not move up at all if they didn't play that week????

that makes no sense. If you think a team is 20th and the 5 teams in front of it lose, then that team now becomes 15th in your poll, unless you see some teams behind it that have impressed you thta week enpough to jump them over.

I think when ranking teams, you have to take into consideration what has ahppened that day and then adjust your rankings accordingly.

if the #1 team in the nation lost, wouldn't you then move your #2 team to #1?

I agree though, that polls should not come out until the first weekend in october.

Not if teams that the 20th ranked team beat previously were exposed as pretenders.

Polls are good for creating discussions, just like failing to come up with a playoff for Div-1A. I hate them, but hey, here we are talking about them.

Just because a team upsets a higher ranked team, doesn't mean that they should be ranked higher....For example, last year we beat OU. We had several losses at the time and it was OU's first loss. We definitely did not deserve to be ranked anywhere close to them even though we won. That's how it goes.
