Idk man. The Malik commit is going to be really telling about where we are with it and who Sumlin thinks he's going to get. Malik will undoubtedly have asked him who's it's going to be. If he gave him some media answer of "the search is going well" that might be the kiss of death.

A linebacking group with Olaka, Walker, Hilliard (back from injury) and Jefferson.....that's an SEC ready group.....add in Washington in a helper role and things are shaping up nicely.

I'm far more worried about Mack and Jefferson coming here than the DC we pick. We get enough talent loaded in here it won't matter who we hire...

The OP is suggesting that Foster is going to grab his $800k and say thanks while walking away? Foster doesn't strike me as the type that would do that to a school he's been very loyal too..
A more likely scenario is that we're trying to negotiate a contract that prevents him from losing that money while signing with us shortly.. Maybe add $400k to the first two years of his contract here.. The effect he would have on recruits right now is worth it..

As long as he is honest about it with the VTech AD I think waiting til New Years is the right move. That annuity has been the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for 5+ years. So it's not rude to take it and leave. They are simply giving him back pay. Besides if he still goes with us then it's better to have VTech pay him the 800k and not us, because he'll be banking off us anyway. I know we can throw money around, but why not let the clock run out and keep 800k that we can spend on a WR coach/OC?

• VT wrote a contract with him and gave him an incentive to stay through the 2014 season. If he does that he gets the money. That contract was ONLY through the 2014 season. If they want to lock him up for more years then they might offer something similar for years after 2014. Haven't you guys even been given stock options that vest over some number of years? It's the same thing. It's an incentive to stick around so you can get paid.
• Second, who cares if he announces that he is leaving after the 2014 season? He still fulfilled the obligation to stay through 2014.

In no way do I think this is an indication of whether he is being offered the position, is taking the position, has declined the position, or has had a single conversation with anyone at A&M. But, the idea that his bonus is a factor in any of this is just crazy.

I think it was established that he is required to say til the New Year. Also the wording in the contract may say that no contract or agreement be signed until then. We just don't know the wording...
