I'm still waiting to see how we ranked for 2014 attendance.

Mizzou: 104,756
L$U: 105,829

Average: 105,122
Total: 630,735

2013 gave us 8 Dates - 697,003 and an average of 87,125.

An average increase of 17,997, or 20.66%

2014 had:
111,592 - Michigan
104,933 - tOSU
101,505 - Bama

Michigan had:
113,085 for Penn State
101,717 for Maryland
103,111 for Indiana
106,811 for Ap State

Arkansas (neutral): ATTENDANCE: 68,113

We very well could have the highest attendance.

Thanks to scheduling an away game at SMU, we just missed out on 1,000,000 for total attendance. But if they include the bowl game, we will eclipse 1M.

Those are ticket sales numbers, not attendance numbers. No one believes the "attendance" number they announce is how many people are in the stands. That's never been so obvious as it was this year.

All you had to do was look around Kyle Field during the LSU game to know that the reported attendance was not people in the building.

Sales vs attendance not the same.

I thought the story in early season was that programs like Michigan were struggling to sell tickets and fill stadiums?

Those numbers are nuts

Story was not inability to sell tickets. It was people not showing up.

To be fair, every other sport entity stretches the truth on attendance numbers.

The sales numbers are the only ones that count.

Only more obvious was the 2005 hurricane game.

Announced attendance was 72,741 with only students in the stands as the university encouraging out-of-towners to not come.

Not that I call them out anyway, but I am having a hard time seeing what the connection is between olds yelling and ticket sales. Looking at the year from a dollars and cents perspective, you cannot argue this year was not a success. Granted, it would have been awesome to sell out every game and have every seat in the stadium filled during the game, but even at our lowest turnout game (ULM) we still had more tickets sold and people in the stadium than, well, ever.

Everybody showing up to the stadium is contingent upon the success of the team. While 2013 was not ultimately what many of us hoped for, if we had that team on the field this past season, its safe to assume the stadium's actual attendance would have been much closer to capacity every game.

Really not trying to derail here, but this tickets sold versus attendance argument is why I don't think an 8 game playoff is a slam-dunk idea. Ticket prices aside, travel expenses to go to three games after the CCG if your team makes it into the final game.

Sure, corporations may buy most of the tickets for those games but only who will show up??
AnalogyAg

The fact that actual attendance was lower than ticket sales is just another feather in our cap.

LSU game, there was probably 8,000 paying hundreds of dollars just to watch our game on t.v.

Hey ........ did anybody mention that ticket sales does not equal attendance?

in other words when they announce attendance that's not necessarily the number of people actually in the stadium. I think it is just tickets sold.

Plenty of people.

No way this is actual attendence. There were tons of empty seats.

Another reason why top 4 teams host 1st round games

All the more reason to have all games at the higher seeded's home field. Championship game only at a neutral site, bid on by competing host cities. The energy at a neutral site doesn't compare to a home crowd for most places.

Let more money stay in the college towns that support the universities, and to the competing universities and their conferences. No reason to have it go to a bowl committee and the tourism revenue of some city that doesn't give a rat's ass about the outcome.

And for people who think a top 8 ruins the regular season, competing for a top 2 season and being able to host a playoff game is plenty of incentive.

First 6 games at home stadiums. This I ideal, but it is a logistical nightmare. Finding the staff and temps, etc., to pull off 110K people coming to town during Christmas break is gonna be a mess, not to mention that most of them don't live there, and only realized they needed hotels a few weeks before the game at most. And it gets even worse if there's a semifinal the next week. This ain't D1AA, where you can play thes games with 15,000 locals in the stands.

When it goes to an 8 team playoff I think you will see an bye week eliminated or season starting a week earlier.
The CCG's I think will all be played Saturday of thanksgiving weekend.

Those numbers look good considering the overall season.
Next year's reduced capacity of 102,512 seems about right.

I struggle to understand those who post on here (on a non-sarcastic basis) in order to grumble about our announcing tickets sold versus actual attendees in the stadium. I am unaware of ANY NCAA school that does otherwise. If I am wrong, please correct me. (Post link to support the assertion, if possible.)

I think the reason for the sarcasm is ,why does attendance matter. Are we raising a " #1 in attendance" banner?

^no. OP started a discussion on the A&M football board about our football attendance this year.
