A poster with no posting history posted something on a Va Tech message board this morning. Later said we would know something definitive within 24-72 hours. I'm not buying it yet

Literally- This is the only thing stimulating all these posts- 1 poster on the VTech board with 7 total posts. It was probably Fosters agent trying to get him more money. This whole thing is the ideal example of how stupid the internet can be. Bud's probably returning from a long weekend of deer hunting to his front lawn full of reporters wondering WTF?

Not saying hes the guy but theres more to it than random postings on a VT mssg board.

Do you have any reason to believe it other than what you've read in premium? If so, do tell. If not, was the premium info posted before the random message board posting?

I actually know virtually nothing about him, but if this picture is any indication of emotion he can bring to the game, I'm ok with him (also he's had some pretty good defenses).

Coaches will interview so they can gain leverage for thier jobs or future jobs and to keep a foothold of plan Bs. The athletic department, if they are good at their job, will annonymously float names to people like Looch to gain leverage in negotiations. These things take time, money, good negotiating skills and a touch of misdirection. Looch may not be the last to know but he wont be the first.

Easy. This is a game of musical chairs and there are more coaches than there are jobs. Even more so when you look at high paying jobs which this will be.
Hypothetical: Lets say Foster is THE guy. He's the one that KDS and the BMAs want. Why would you go into negotiations with Foster from that position? Rather wouldn't you want him to be percieved as one on the list? At least if nothing else you don't want to tip your hand. If they are willing to pay 2-3 million you don't start the negotiation from there if Foster is willing to accept 1.2. Float coach Booms name via 3rd party (Looch and ESPN) and see where you are at with Foster.
This also gives you the advantage of buying time and not letting Va Tech get out in front of a bidding war. Edit Reason 3: it gives you buzz about the program to stall recruits. You toss out a huge name for the rumour mill mean while your coaches are telling recruits to be calm. "It wont be Boom but it will be a big name. Don't commit someplace else yet."

- Then, a mod on the site the post was made, responds with:

The BMAs are watching the DC search/hire VERY closely, and are involved to the extent that money is needed to pay for said coach, but make no mistake- this is Sumlin's hire. He gets to put together his staff. BMAs may influence a HC hire, overstepping the AD, but they don't tell the HC (at least this one) WHO to hire as his DC. They do, however, pull the ultimate rip cord on that HC, if needed, and this hire will be very telling as to just what kind of HC Sumlin is. His track record to date in this area is not something they have been impressed with.
