Our playcalling is predictable. All too often, I can correctly call out the play based on the formation, and I'm just some guy on a couch.
We only run about four plays, which means that defenses gets all week to work on blowing up bubble screens and handoffs out of the shotgun.
We don't take advantage of our players' strengths. Every once in a while, bouncing the big back outside will get big yardage. Every once in a while, throwing a bubble screen to the big slow guy will work out. I'm actually a fan of handing the ball off to small fast guys up the middle, because they can sneak through holes and get into space faster. However, we almost exclusively go away from our offensive players' strengths.
The defense loads the box against Carson, so we play into their hands by trying to run outside. Newsflash: if we fire off the ball in front of Carson, we should be able to pick up yards even against a loaded box!
They play off RSJ on the edge because they know they can recover to him, but we try the screen anyway. We absolutely refuse to go strength on strength. Throw the ball to Speedy, because he has a chance to shake the first tackle and get some yards, whereas RSJ is a tree just waiting to get chopped down.
Of course, this becomes less of a problem if you have more then four plays from which to choose.
I thought our offensive performance in conference play was even worse than our defense.
