Inherited some good players that Sherman developed. Especially the offensive line.

The odd thing is that Harrison, Matthews and Cedric were all Sherman guys...Anderson has turned them into the OLine of the 1990 Houston Coogs...lazy and uninspired because all they have to do is pass block...

Two things sherman did very well
1) had a knack for finding o-line talent
2) recruited quality kids who were smart. IE Steven Terrel, Cyrus, EZ etc...

Used to think penalties were Sherman's biggest problem. Not just him...anymore.
Incessant lack of discipline. Stop with the Sherman talk.
He sucked as a HC at Green Bay and as a HC at A&M.

Actually Sherman didn't want Johnny remember. It was only because of Sherman's assistant did we get Johnny. Regardless, it wasn't Sumlin's or KK's play calling genius. It was Johnny breaking away from their plays and making things happen on his own.

Maybe. i want to see how year 4 plays out.

A continual slide would suggest that he did.

I remember how frustrating it was to blow 2nd half leads against good teams.
Now the 2nd halfs aren't even worth watching.

yes he did...been saying that for 3 years. He inherited a very loaded team. turns out that defense was pretty good too. No way those players would have ever been embarrassed like we did today...

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes he did. Sherman grew an awesome o line and JFF was a lucky draw. That combination was unstoppable.

Sherman needed a few more years with Larry Jackson as his SC coach and a new DC that could develop the defensive front and we would have had a sustainable winning program

Sherman was a great evaluator of talent, especially on offense. He was perfect to rebuild the roster after Fran gutted it. Unfortunately, once he had built a great team, he proved conclusively that he was not the guy to get us to the next level. All those big first half leads that we got by physically mauling the opposing team, followed by all those second half collapses when he got too fancy and let the other team get back in the game and win. While I appreciated what Sherman did for us and still do, we needed a change.

I wanted a defense and run game first coach and was thus initially against the Sumlin hire, but he won me over the last couple years. He seemed to have the right attitude, the recruiting, and the wins were coming. The mississippi games didn't shake that too much; we trotted out a bad quarterback against two great teams. I'm not abandoning Sumlin yet, but the Bama game was every bit as bad as 77-0. There was no redeeming aspect to that game. The worst part was the team giving up.

If we don't end the season on a higher note and win 9 games next year (with the losses being competitive) I'll be off the wagon. We hired Sherman to get us out of the gutter. He did that but couldn't get us to the upper echelon, so we hired Sumlin. Well, this is year three and we are not within shouting distance of the upper echelon. We just got beaten like a drum three straight weeks. They are great teams, but we hired Sumlin to make us a great team, too. Great teams don't get whipped 59-0.

The good news is that we have a lot of young talent on the roster and even more on the way (for now). Because of the raw talent, I think this is a situation that can be turned around in one year with the right coaching adjustments and maybe a couple changes to coordinator and position spots. We have got to rededicate ourselves to winning the line of scrimmage in the run game.

Sumlin has been riding coattails since he's been a head coach. He rode a coattail to $5MM/yr without winning a damn thing.
