I seriously think our teams problem is completely between their ears...Kenny has lost his confidence and Kyle isnt quite ready yet.

Speedy's got solid history in playing QB and leading a team. He obviously wants the ball all the time...even if things aren't looking good. (just like Johnny did)

This is worth a shot...it might have a huge payoff quickly.

Coach Sumlin: you're welcome

May not such a crazy thing to do given the state of the team. If all it needs for a spread offense is a mobile QB, as everybody seems to be convinced, then try it out. We have nothing to lose at this point

Winner.

Except he might not be very accurate passer and therefore no threat except running.
With that said I am for anything different!

This is a horrible idea, but I'm up for any change, so ok.

It can't get any worse

Won't work in the Mike Leach offense. Sumlins hero is Leach.

Actually I was just thinking this. Basically run the wildcat, except with a passing threat. As opposed to a QB with a running threat. If Speedy, or someone else fast and shifty, can throw on the run we might have a chance at more than 50 yards per half.

was thinking same thing. Wildcat with Speedy. Team's haven't prepared for it. Couldn't be any worse than what we are doing now.

Doesn't the rest of the offense have to block, at least even a little?

It's not a crazy idea at all! For example, the QB for Auburn was a glorified defensive back!!! Speedy is the only player on our offense showing heart and effort no matter what the score is! I like this idea

I think the OP has a good idea. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Three posts about this last week and they received mostly ridicule. This one seems to have some support. Amazing what losing 59-0 will do to a fan base.

I thought we would have seen speedy run the wildcat by now anyway. I support this. Need some spark. Speedy is not a quitter. Give him a shot.

I've been saying this for a while.....I'm totally OK with this idea. He's our best offensive player, and you want the ball in your best player's hands as much as possible.

Sumlin would have to admit that BOTH of his highly recruited QBs are not up to snuff, one of which has been in the system two season now (1.5).

It would take a huge amount of humility to make that call.

In other words, never gonna happen. This man is too proud to admit that.

Weren't Verne and Gary even joking about this yesterday? They had so much time to fill yesterday, I lost track of all the subjects they covered.

Run more of a read option scheme. Nick Marshall couldn't throw the ball worth a dang sometimes but Auburn fared pretty well. He's definitely improved as a passer this season though.

It cannot be worse than what we saw yesterday.

Although this could be interesting, learning the playbook from a QB perspective is vastly different from a WR perspective. Tannehill could do it because he was a redshirt junior and was listed as the 2nd string QB anyway. Speedy is nowhere on the QB depth chart and is a true freshman.

More or less how I feel too. Really terrible idea but screw it. Speedy for qb.

Agree. Offensive scheme needs to switch to some form of this. Doesnt appear to be a huge change. Majority of high schools run some type of it. Should be able to find good players to run it.
One of the changes Im watching to see if Sumlin makes in off season.
