Lots of interesting stuff today. The first point about what matters in OL play - hands and footwork - is the kind of stuff I know in the abstract, but as a fan I don't see the details when I watch the game.

Good discussion of technique and fundamentals. Liked the discussion of situational awareness. Example: don't worry about blocking the second level when you only need a yard for a first down.

I listened today. Worth listening to for everyone. IMHO, if things don't improve in OL play, Summy needs to make some coaching changes.

Wouldn't those calls fall on the QB or Center?

Hunter has nailed it the last two weeks. He calls out what needs to be called out and uses facts and logic instead of emotions. I hope the team is listening to the same advice and understand where they must get better and tougher to compete in the SEC every week. Thanks again Hunter.

As long as that information is coming from the coaching staff, I agree. I wouldn't wish listening to a bunch of emotional asshats call into a radio show to discuss imperfections on my worst enemy.

Hunter's segment is the best TexAgs radio segment period. Spot on detailed analysis of what is wrong AND right.

Hunter is greatness, and is a true student of the game. I don't understand why folks were bashing him after his segment last week. He speaks the truth with passion.

The Hunter segment is great. He gave props to guys like RSJ who stepped it up from the last game. He also said that Kenny is not the problem, though he still has plenty to work on. Biggest problem is that O Line has not been giving him time the last couple of weeks. Talked a lot about how bad foot/hand technique can get you by in the BigXII and against teams like Lamar and Rice, but not against elite SEC defenses. Putting KA in there will not fix that. He also mentioned that the RBs are not hitting the holes as designed. Were bouncing it outside against a speedy Miss D trying to make a big play instead of just hitting the hole straight ahead for the one yard needed for the first down. He also pointed out a lack of effort on some plays, especially the pick six play when no one tried very hard to tackle the defensive ball carrier.

Who was the o-lineman that peeled off at about the 20 or so instead of trying to stay between returner and the end zone?

IMO, the OL is not dramatically worse, even though the play on the field seems worse.

The difference is last year the D-lines paid more attention to minding running gaps and preventing JFF from scrambling away or rushing up field, so they couldn't just collapse the pocket into chaos. This year D-lines have no fear of Hill really hurting them consistently with his feet or throwing on the scramble, so they are pinning their ears back and collapsing the pocket much faster than last year.

In short, it's the "loss of JFF effect".
