I would like to see our offense in more of a hurry up. Arkansas was gassed at the end. If we had gone faster earlier then I think that their defense would have worn down quicker. This is one thing we have missed since Kingsbury left. He always pushed the pace. We need to do that more.

We weren't going as fast as we did at SCar. I don't know why.

Actually, the pace of this game was 20.29 seconds per play, which was faster than South Carolina (22.81 seconds per play) and SMU. It was slightly slower than Lamar, and noticeably slower than Rice (17.05 seconds per play).

The difference was that Rice and Arky play the running ball control game, limiting the Ags to 59 and 68 plays, whereas the Ags ran 99 plays against South Carolina.

As we go deeper into this schedule we need to push the pace against the large d lineman in the conference. Wear those big boys out!!!

It's also hard to run the hurry up when you are committing stupid penalties and missing/dropping passes.

You have to make first downs to run the hurry up.

Could this partly explain our 21 unanswered points at the end of the game?

we need to stop dropping 3rd down passes. and get rhythm. and then we'll hit high gear.

I think it does. By the 4th quarter, Arkansas was gassed. Our pace was able to quicken. Though it seemed faster when our 21 points came off three big plays.

More important though our defense had the reserves to dig deep and got 4+ quarters. The Arkansas big guns did not. Big guys tire too quickly to be relief on deep in the game. Their penalties hurt them, yes. That knife though cuts both ways.

Why the hurry up works. Its just like a military pilot. the human brain works in an orderly fashion. You want to catch people in the Orient phase. You want them to have to Act before they have Decided what is happening. It does not matter what is happening in the game. You want to press the pace. This will lead to mistakes and big plays.

Exactly. It seemed like half of our offensive drives were at normal, typical college football speed. We didn't do the up-temp that we typically run. It was very odd

Agreed if we want to wear the big boys out we have to consistently convert on 3rd down. Keep their defense on the field and every play get set quickly and snap the ball again before they catch their breath. Of course LSU will resort to a fake injury every play, but even the refs get tired of that Bullsh&t after a while.

It also doesn't seem to me that either of our QBs (Hill or especially Allen) are anywhere near as fast as Manziel was in short passes to the sides. DIsclaimer: I've watched every game except Ark.

Emilio nailed it. Hurry up and 3 and out only gasses your own defense. Not sure if that was the reason or not, but our D needed some rest early. I got concerned when I saw Garrett huffing and puffing in the 1st quarter.

Hurry up offense works best when we keep making first downs. Hurry up three and outs really don't help us much.

Lets form a committee that goes and tells KDS to make 1st and 3rd downs.

Probably because of the air conditioning at Jerryworld.

We had a lot of incomplete passes yesterday. It works best when gaining positive yardage.

Myles was/maybe is fighting a bad cold. That's why he was tugging pretty hard for air early on. Should be better by this weekend

The reason for our pace not going as fast is we are sending players in every other down to rotate wt or running back .

And honestly do not know why unless it is for a match up that they want .

What is the philosophy or game plan with our RBs? It seems like once they get a big run or more than a first down. They get subbed out? I would think that they would keep the hot legs moving. But I'm not a coach. Just curious.

I thought one of the keys early at SC was that we called plays that stretched to one sideline, then ran the next play to the other. This forced the D to run long distances early and get winded in the first couple of drives. It was obvious very early in the 2nd quarter that they were running on fumes.

Stretching the field horizontally while going fast will wear out a defense.

I think Sumlin was trying to prevent our front 7 on defense from getting overworked and worn out so slowed down the offense to give them some air.

For 3 1/2 quarters our offense looked like crap. When your offense looks like crap, you want to limit the number of crappy plays you run.

How were these calculated? Is i just TOP divided by # of plays? Because if so, that may not be too accurate due to clock stoppage. You would have to actually figure out the overall elapsed time snap to snap.

Ag-13 wants to get them in the OODA Loop as developed by Boyd

The good old OODA Loop!!! One of my favorite military strategy lessons. Also works great in a game of Chess.

Get your loop inside of theirs and it compounds and becomes an exponential problem for them. They are acting before deciding and you are already observing, orienting, and moving on to decide and act before they have another chance to observe.

Love it. You sir just became one of my favorite TexAgians

Slowing the offense down just isn't our style, but we beat Arkansas playing their game. That's impressive.
