Riding on a plane out of Boston and sitting next to a 80yr old Bostonian who wanted to talk a little sports. He hears I am from Texas and immediately asks me about the Aggies. I show him my Aggie ring and we talk Aggies for the next 30 minutes. He is whooping and saying Gig'em to the others on the plane he knew after I told him about many of our great traditions. Funny stuff! Said A&M was his favorite college team to watch and was going to have to figure out a way to watch the game Saturday while he and the wife were in California on vacay.
If 80 year old Bostonians know about us and enjoy rooting for the Aggies, there has been a national perception change that is more staggering than any of us local Aggies could imagine.
On the way up there sat next to a guy that sold NCAA licensed merchandise in a Texas, Lousiana, Oklahoma, New Mexico territory and he said A&M has surpassed tu merchandise sales and that it is not even close now. Use to be tu was the clear leader and now both A&M and LSU have surpassed tu.
Thought it was interesting to see all of the real implications of A&M becoming a national power.
