I was home for lunch and watched the Big 12 No huddle game, Ark. vs. Tech. Arkansas is a good running team. But man after watching Techs defense, I am a little less concerned about Ark. Tech missed more tackles at the Line of Scrimmage than I could count. Techs defensive front is very bad. I know they are built to face Big 12 offenses, but their technique up front is really bad. They ran around blocks creating holes ( the Hogs size I am sure was the reason they were doing this) and if they were in position to make tackles in the hole they whiffed. The Ark. defense will have trouble stopping the Aggies as well.

They looked pretty good against Auburn for the first half. They will push the Mississippi teams back down to the bottom in the next few years.

I agree. They are getting there. I just meant I don't believe they can just line up and run the ball against good defenses for a whole game right now.

We will do better. But our tackling was pretty bad against Rice as well.

I agree with the OP.

I'm using google Chrome. Does anybody else's font look weird, in the sense that all vertical lines, like I, L, and T, look like they are in bold?

You can't run the ball when your down 28-7 at half

Drey - I assume we will be a little more focused against a SEC team than we were against Rice. Besides, I believe Mastro and a few others being back will help.

As weird as it sounds, I think the key to the Arky game is our time of possession. If we can get long drives and keep the ball out of their hands (and diminish their ability to wear us down in the 3rd and 4th quarters), I believe that we win by 2 or so touchdowns. If we quick-strike score every time, it will be a much closer game.

All this hype about Arky's run game, I can see them coming out and throwing the ball right over Howard Mathews head. I can guarantee you they will take some deep shots in the beginning to catch us off guard since all the focus is on that tech performance

Good thing we never miss tackles

Everybody and I mean everybody will miss tackles. That wasn't the only point. Tech was running around blocks and generally playing poor technique. Arkansas will run the ball well on most teams. You don't have to completely shut them down. You just cannot let them run wild. A&M will score plenty on the Ark. defense. Guys expecting a defense in todays college football to just force a team to go 3 and out every series is living in the past. The name of the game is to win. If that is a 52-35 game or a 10-7 game it is no difference. There are no bad wins. Look at the games played in college footballs first 3 weeks, I haven't seen a real dominant team so far. Wins are all that matters. I would rather win ugly than lose pretty.

What do you think about Arkansas taking deep shots at the start of the game?

This brings back miserable memories of the 2011 game...

You have to think that they realize they have to be near perfect on offense with a grind it out strategy. They have to keep it close and score touchdowns. Anytime they punt or kick a FG in the first quarter, they will start to press that much more. As soon as the OC presses, we win on defense and can take them out of their comfort zone. I see this game playing out just like USC.

I still think their TE will have a 100+ yard receiving game, but I also still think we win handily.

Ag92. Bielema may try that a time or two. But coaches have their offenses, styles and beliefs. They pound it into their players head year round that this is how we are going to win, this is the way and this is the buy in you hear coaches always talking about . The players buy in and believe and have confidence in the system. You start doing stuff too much away from that and the players start thinking the coach doesn't believe we can run our offense and beat these guys and then they start doubting the system. Plus, you recruit guys to play that system. One thing that killed Mack Brown was his constant changing and re-inventing his offense every year. Like I said. Ark. may try something downfield , but they won't change their game-plan or system.

If we quick-strike score every time, we will have literally scored every time. Yes it makes it hard on our defense, but if we can score almost every time we have the ball, like we did against USCe or Lamar we will not lose.

It would be beautiful if we could run-off a series like the one in last year's 3rd quarter..9 or 10 straight rushes and score a TD.

Agree with CoachLB that a dominating defense forcing 3-n-outs all game long is damn near a thing of the past. You can ask Nick Saban about that....

It's all about bowing up in red zone and forcing a couple of field goals along the way instead of TD's.
We're even seeing major underdogs able to run up and down the field a bit on elite teams/defenses, but
once that underdog is forced to kick a field goal, you just know they're screwed.

Absolutely love our ability to produce 7 once in the zone, especially the way we're finally able to power (run)
it in from the 3-5 yard line wihout having to resort to fades and rub routes.

The thing is, Sumlins offense is quick strike and to alter it will just bring disaster. That is the reason we need a well conditioned, highly talented defense. Yes, the defense will not stop the opposing offenses every time however, a fifty-fifty ratio of three and outs or drives in which no points are scored will win us games.

C'mon. Don't see them beating Ole Miss for the next two years at least. Miss St. is really overrated in my opinion, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Arky potentially surpass them for the #6 spot in the West.

Tech's defensive line was simply out-muscled by Arkansas's O-line. Skipper just swatted defenders aside with one hand. He's 6'10" 316lbs. And athletic. That's a load.

They lost to Ole Miss by 10 last year and took MSU to overtime. It's not like they have to make up tons of ground.

They'll beat Ole Miss. Might be a multiple overtime game, but they'll win (barring devastating injuries).

Bielema Ball is just too taxing for unconditioned and smaller defensive lines, over the course of four quarters.

LSU is going to struggle as well. And they have a sizeable D-line. As is par for the course with the swamp kitties, we'll see multiple defensive players faking injury to get a breather. It won't be because of the fast pace of the game, it will be because the Arkansas O-Line is that big.

I don't see the appeal in Bielema's offense because there is such a low margin for error. Because of this you need a good to great defense to play at a championship level.

Gonna be a while before beilema ball beats teams like auburn, lsu and bama.

As for us, if our d plays like it did against usc it will be a while before ark beats us as well

Not any value in running when your down 35-7 at half and know we are going to score at least 24 more!

Good point Jake. First down is key. If they are in 2nd and 4 or 5, you are in trouble. But a negative play or a penalty really hurts a team like Ark. It is a must for them not to get behind the chains.

People giving Arky too much credit against a bad Tech team. Tech barely beat UTEP

As with everything, you have to take it in context. They played auburn tough for at least a half, they were within 10 of ole miss and in OT with MSU last year. I think they will pick somebody off this season. Unfortunately for them, they are playing Georgia and Mizzou from the east, so it doesn't get much easier for them in interdivision play.

Arkansas is a bad matchup for us; you need really good LBs to stop their running game which is our biggest weakness. I think we win, but it will probably be a lot closer than people on TexAgs think. I predict 34-31 Ags
