I like the idea. I don't like the execution. Why the awkward cadence in a monotone voice?

I thought we were suppose to be getting excited for our defense, not going to sleep.

But I hate Fighting texas Aggie first down and I hate this new third down.

I prefer a PA announcer like the old guy at Yankee Stadium forever. No drama, just information delivered in a classic, timeless way.

I was making fun of this during the game, and my seat neighbors told me "to accept and embrace" the "it's 3rd down" announcements.

Does this make me the jackass of the game for complaining about this?

They do it for new army.. It's their cue to look up from their phones to yell. Just the way these millennials are unfortunately.

Some of you will complain about anything. Who gives a crap if the announcer says in a girly voice. "OK everyone, third down is coming up! Yall make some noise now!" Just watch the game and yell. I don't understand how four words gets some people so worked up.

Pretty JV. Administration is trying way too hard. Did he do the UFC intro for the Rice game? That sounded ridiculously stupid also.

In 20 years when they stop with the 'it is... Third down', I'm gonna get on here and complain about new army screwing up the way things were.

I am in the student section. I do not have my phone out during games - ever. I don't mind the 3rd down crap either way.

I don't know the guy, but some of the comments in that interview make him sound like a dick. Not exactly the guy I want representing the university. And the third-down call is distracting and dumb. The guy needs to get over himself and realize most people don't really care to hear him.

If PA announcer is actually reading this - for what it is worth and note purposes:

Don't like 3rd down call. Didn't like it when you started it last year.

Don't care about 1st down call one way or the other.

Disagree. Having the opposing team witness 100,000 fans sawing in unison can be intimidating. Making them wonder what they have gotten themselves into.

The Hymn swaying is unique to college football. Seems silly to fail to use it to A&M's advantage.

For 1st downs..we should play a clip of Red Cashion saying "FFFFIIIRSTTTT DAAAAAAYYYOWNN" or bring back the old 90s scoreboard graphic of "First Down..Down..First..."

It's certainly noticeable. It's OK with me. Overall he does a good job at Kyle Field and Reed Arena for MBB.

The one that annoys me is Mark Edwards, the Reed announcer for WBB. Most of the time I can't understand what he's saying--some of that is acoustics at Reed. But he really annoys me with "Aggies' Balllll" ad nauseam. And when he follows with , "I said Aggies' ball," I think , "Oh, shut up!" Some like it, some don't.

No. Never have liked the War Hymn right after the players run onto the field. Sorry.

I haven't been to many other stadiums but I have been to fayetteville and ole miss.

Maybe Chace's wording and the way he puts it needs to be changed but I firmly believe he needs to say something for third down.

Not everyone that attends the games are die-hard football fans that are on the edge of their seat to see the next play.

When I visited those other stadiums - when the 3rd down "chime" or whatever was played the stadium went NUTS. I'm convinced that it's because of the chime or whatever (Pavlov's Dogs). Can't remember who it was but some school had a scary sounding bell when it was third down... It was catchy. You better believe every fan (after a certain amount of time) knew without a doubt that when they heard that bell....it was time to make some noise because something important was happening.

It's easy for a lot of people to get caught up in talking to their friends or being on their phone during the game...so we need to not live in denial about this.

Anyway... My 2 cents based on my experience at other stadiums.

We had only a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" PA announcement in the 60's Time to suck it up guys. Life is good. Press on. We are the Aggie's.

We play There's a Spirit, we play the intro video, shoot off fireworks, play other videos, etc..., etc...

Are all of those stupid because we shouldn't need a reminder we're supposed to be hopped up for the game? Should we only put advertisements on the scoreboard because we shouldn't need to be "reminded" what down it is, the score, etc...? Is it stupid to put that information on the scoreboard?

You're over thinking it, and the argument fails, anyways.

I like what the announcer does, for the most part. Whether we should need it or not, it does a pretty good job of setting up what are pretty often rather crucial third downs. He doesn't always do it, and maybe he shouldn't do it as often as he does...but I generally like it.
