Now I'm going to break down 3 plays from the game on Saturday. The first two are new wrinkles to the Trips set that both occurred in the 2nd quarter with Kenny in the game.
We are lined up in Trips left with Trey being the running back. Pope, Holmes, and Kennedy are lined up (although due to bad camera work Pope and Holmes are off screen.) Notice the ball is on the right hash.
Right at the snap Kenny takes off to the left with Trey leading the way blocking whoever happens to step up. You can see how far Kenny has run to the left, already outside the left hash mark as he lets the ball go.
Kenny hits a wide open Holmes square in his chest and Sabian turns it up field for a quick strike touch down. Notice the fantastic block by Pope to spring Sabian for the touch down.
We now move to the following drive in the second quarter.
We are in the same formation, Trips, but this time lined upto the right. Trey is still in the game. I can't name all the receivers due to the camera being zoomed in so far.
You can see Hill immediately break to the right side of the formation, towards the Trips set. Notice that Trey stays virtually in the same spot appearing to look for someone to block.
Kenny slips Trey the ball and you can see all the open holes for Trey to pick.
Trey decides to bounce it outside as Ogbuehi pins the Lamar linebacker. After a few moves to make Lamar's #2 do a spin, Trey is pushed out of bounds for a 9 yard gain.
This last play is an example of how the Aggies can defeat their opponents with smash mouth football. This play also occurred in the second quarter on a 3rd &1.
I count 7 offensive linemen and 2 tight ends (Smith and Alexander). James White was our big back this game so he got the call in this formation.
It really isn't a fair fight at this point. The defense is getting blown off the ball and James could practically walk through the hole for a first down. We have the first down in hand and 2 guys aren't blocking anyone yet.
Now the hole busts wide open. Smith is lining up his defender and White already has the first down and wants more.
Smith makes a nice block, White breaks a tackle, and we pickup an easy 17 yards. Like I said in the write up, this play will obviously expand with multiple play action options.
