If Sam was hetero he would not have been drafted.
Riiiight. I don't think he is a world-beater or anything, but comments like these sound like nothing more than homophobic drivel.
I don't think that's necessarily homophobic. Sam was drafted toward the end, which suggests he wasn't an especially high priority for any team. So the scales could likely have been tipped relatively easily. And it seems perfectly reasonable to think that GMs and suits at the NFL were worried about how things would look if the first openly-gay player (who was conceivably draftable) were not drafted. Avoiding the appearance of homophobia could be worth spending a late-round pick on a so-so player.
On the other hand, one could make an equally-convincing case that the DPotY in the SEC wouldn't have fallen as far as he did if he were straight.
Analysts were saying he would be a later-round draft before he came out, so your opinion is patently unsubstantiated. NFL organizations aren't looking to waste draft picks, even in later rounds.
The reason Michael Sam came out was to send a message to 1) struggling homosexuals in sports and schools everywhere that it's okay to be yourself and 2) heterosexuals in these areas that gay people play the game with just as much hard work and determination as they do and that it's okay for them to be a part of the team.
You may not realize this but gay people tend to be discriminated against in schools and in sports. It's hard for some people to see past the discrimination and sometimes good athletes are pushed out of the game or worse and for no reason other than bigotry and hatred.
Sports were created to bring people together. How about you let Sam have his shot without bringing your ignorant comments to every thread even slightly related to him.
