This is the kind of debate that gets incredibly irrational posts. All I will say is that the flag code/conduct post was correct and, while this country was founded on those that "stood up against a gov't they didn't believe in", the flag doesn't represent the government. The flag represents the ability and willingness to do so as Americans, regardless of the government at hand. Love or hate the current government...the flag has nothing to do with them. It's about all of us and our national pride. Thus, you show respect to the flag as a symbol of our nation, not a symbol of the current leaders of the country. It's part of the etiquette and selflessness that has almost become extinct.

What about taking off your fedora during the national anthem? I personally don't like to take it off because it complements my outfit so well.
